Windows Explorer, Tools, File Types - remove

or

If you want to associate it with something else use 'Open with'.

ah, thanks.

I thought this would solve my problem but it's obviously a lot ore complicated than I thought.

Visiting http://www.lovefilm.com/view_dvd.php?dt_id=60002 and clicking on a streaming wmv link opens a new blank browser window in firefox, and internet explorer tried to download it(which wouldn't play). The only way I can get the video to play is if i manually copy and paste the url into Windows media Player which is anoying.

How can I make it open the url directly in windows media player?

edit: oh i see, just got it fixed in windows media player options.

Much as it pains me to say it, the answer is to use IE. I tried to ages to get streaming WMV links to play in the media player plugin in FIrefox, to no avail. I tried IE just to see if it shared the problem, and it worked right off the bat. Integration of MS products and all that. Whether the actual problem is with Firefox or Media Player's plugin for same is another matter...

I don't think it is ment to open in a plugin. It doesn't work in my IE either(it tried downloading the streaming file), I thought there might be a problem with my file associations.

How do you make the browser open a link you click on in another application?

Does firefox leave open a new blank window after you click on the link?
Mine does, but internet explorer closes the blank window once wmp starts, how can I make firefox do the same?

Yes, when clicking the link to the clip FF opens in a new window and then WMP starts.

I have no idea how to do that, sorry.

Erm, I have a similar problem - literally none of my media plugins work on Firefox anymore. Everytime one appears, I get "Plug-in performed an illegal operation you should restart navigator..."

So I have to view the source code, try find the url of the actual clip and paste that into the browser address bar, then it opens it in a seperate program (WMP classic) no worries.

Someone help - do I need to re-install firefox? Are my plug-ins out of date? Is that possible?

Didn't really work. I think it's something to do with the University's exceptionally rubbish proxy. None of my media players can connect to the internet.
