Bro, most of that hardware makes my eyes water.

The only thing I feel even vaguely qualified to talk about is RAM. I love your choice, but I can't help feeling that 2 x 2GB is more like it. I have a feeling - knowing the way you like to work - that you may find yourself using virtualization at some point, and if you do, you'll be grateful for that extra RAM. Trust me, the ability to sandbox stuff is not to be underestimated.

Anyway, good luck with your system. I hope it spanks your monkey as well - it should :-)

Good point - I went for 4 x 1Gb rather than 2 x 2Gb as it was a hell of a lot cheaper.

Remember, a 32bit OS won't see it all but my setup can pickup 3.5Gb - me awaits Vista :)

Indeed so. I dunno how many ram slots his Mobo has, so 4x1GB could be a better solution indeed. I just don't want his poor underspecced system further crippled by such things :)

I know, you just can't help but feel sorry for him :lmfao:

It's heartbreaking, it really is.

Just in case it's useful, TL, here's a quick guide to your new system in terms I know you understand:

Two of them, then guv :-)

If the mobo has two more slots to use i guess you can upgrade later of course.

Don't know if you saw this article TL but OCZ have the required modules although they are a bit picky with the mobo.

An update for those interested and to allow people a good laugh at my misfortunes!  The new system is here (went with X6800 in the end), but I am going through hell trying to get it stable.  I went with a non-reference design mobo (ASUS Striker) to avoid the raid corruption and BSOD/memory issues associated with the eVGA etc board.  I even went for some nice tasty Corsair Dominator 8888 RAM to help the o/c (currently a modest 3.5Ghz), but unfortunately I am suffering repeated raid corruption and BSOD/memory issues.

ASUS seem to be intermittently on and off the case.
System arrived initally with an 0702 BIOS, then upgraded to 0802 after furst round of problems.
Problems returned with the 0802 BIOS so went to the 0901 BIOS.
Problems persisted with the 0901 BIOS so went to the 1002 BIOS.
Problems persisted with the 1002 BIOS so went to roll back to 0802 but found that both the 0802, 0901 and 1002 BIOS had been removed from the ASUS website.
Went back to the ASUS website and found 0901 BIOS back up for download.
Problems persist, system hangs are usually associated with game play, but can happen at random times.
After a hang the system can fail to recognise the raid 0 array and therefore will refuse to boot as it does not see a boot device.
Updated GPU, chipset, raid, DX and all other drivers I can think of but the problems persist.
Most common hangs - whilst in game with WOW, but it has also occured when I try to run 3Dmark06.
Vendor is as stumped as I am by the problem.
I'm killing myself here trying to figure out why the system is failing.

Throw me a frikkin bone someone or I'll be throwing myself out of the nearest window :frusty:

Is it stable at normal (non overclocked) speeds? That will let us know if we have a basic problem or do we just need to play with the voltages and timings.
