I am considering to buy a console but what should I get? PS2 have many games out and is also compatible with old PS1 games.

X-box got the internet feature but not that many games.

To acquire more games it is easier to "find" PS2 games as I understand it.

Suggestions and comments please.

ps2 in my opinion m8ty, there just good in virtually every aspect, i havnt got either so im unbiased. i dont like x-box's for the simple reason that the controlers are really big and clumsey difficult to find buttons as they have so many and they are not ergonomically placed, this is just imo. but theres my 2 cents worth

Having played on all 3 big consoles my own opinion is rather torn...

X-box is microsoft, and although thats thought of as a bad thing generally MS do make very good hardware. X-box is very hackable if you know what you are doing. One of my mates chipped his so it'll run linux and put in a 120Gb hard drive which now has something like 40 or 50 major games titles stored on it (i.e. no disc required...) The controllers, while not as nice as I remember the ps2 ones are quite good actually. Not a lot different to ps2 controllers. Just chunkier really.

PS2 is back compatible and there are loads of games. Plus you can chip it so that it runs "back-up copies" (so your original disks *cough* dont get scratched) It's less powerful than the x-box and the graphics, while good, arent quite as hefty as x-box.

I think they're about the same price. I dunno which I prefer anymore, although I do still prefer the ps2 controllers and its generally clearer (if less powerful) graphics. I'd go for whichever console your mates have so that you can borrow and swap games... Myself I'm gonna stick with my pc for the moment 8)

Forget the gamecube, unless you are a big fan of those sweet-cartoony type games (it does have good games aswell, but still...)

Errrr.....Doggers?  Be afraid.  Be VERY afraid.  Some time soon, Linux could be coming to a Microsloath X-box near you  :end:

Nah I am not into that. I like it nice and simple.

I have ben looking at the second hand market of the consoles and you get more extra stuff when buying a PS2 console in comparsion to a X-box

it depends on what games you want to play....the x-box may be better on paper but i think ps2 has better game selection....

How about chipping and modding of the consoles? Bigger HD to X-Box etc.

Regarding games. I've heard from a friend (he has x-box so he is bit biased i think) that PS2 have more games but more oriented in style towards the Asian market and the X-box is more Europe/USA oriented. Anything true about this ...?
