You're never going to be able to filter the mail by sender as it's going to be spoofed and a different senders e-mail address used every time.
If it's a good spam trap you should be able to filter by more advanced criteria. You should also get one that deletes your mail from the server without actually wasting time downloading it. Deleted mail in Outlook Exress ends up in the deleted folder so you have to manually delete it again to get rid of it completely :-(

We'll get the buggers though

I thought the Spamnet idea was pretty good - and I have to say that day one's use of it on my machine gave it a 100% perfect record.

Basing the spam criteria on message signatures is a good one, it doesn't matter so much what is spoofed as the 'bulk' bit of the message should allow the filter to pick it up and filter it.  Downloading it is not ideal, but then you lose control (and some emails) if you do not download to your machine first.

Using auto deletion from the server is only a good idea if you can absolutely positively guarantee that the emails it has picked out are really spam.  As I work in finance I get involved with investments, loans, etc so a lot of legitimate email could be auto-deleted.  What I like about Spamnet is that (a) it seems to work, (B) it allows me to scan through the headers to check that it has not picked out any legitimate emails and © it will actively learn from any corrections to its decisions that I make (by e.g. unblocking an email it had picked out as spam and thrown into my spam folder).

Yesterday it cleared out 22 emails for me  :D   Like SS and a few others on this forum, the level of spam I receive has jumped substantially over the past few weeks, so I am glad to have extra help.

The only concern is the price, but then £3 per month for a solution that actually works is good value in my book.  And as for the exchange rate, a credit card handles it with ease........

Fair points about possibly missing legit email if it is set to be binned from the server without downloading, but SS has the problem of his kids seeing it.

So mabey it's worth the risk?

I use Popcorn (http://www.ultrafunk.com/products/popcorn/)

it is a front end to a telnet session and you can have the whole thing on a floppy disk, stick it in a computer and run it to see YOUR email.

It lists the headers so you can select to delete the obviously dodgy stuff without having to view it. Additionally you can view the message but as the viewer only supports text there is a bonus - NO VIRUSES :-)

QuoteIf you've got ISDN or above AND you use Outlook (not Express) then I recommend Spamnet.

This works by comparing your email with a database of known spam. When a match is found it moves the spam to a folder of your choice (I get it to mark the mail as read and move it to the deleted folder). Any spam left behind can be marked manually which will inturn update the Spamnet database (assuming enough other people mark it as well).

Their website says that they're working on an Outlook Express version.

HTH

Doh !! Just realized i have outlook express. Whats the diff between this and plain old outlook ? And can i change to outlook ? if so how ?... to get spamnet working

Outlook is the commercial version of outlook express. It has more features like a calendar, task manager etc. It's a beast of a program, costs a fortune and is not really for home use. Outlook Express is the e-mail part of Outlook with a few bells and whistles removed. It handles mail filtering rules much the same as it's big brother so it's probably not worth upgrading for that.

I've found out where your spam in coming from "Virginia USA"  of all places

There's a PM waitng for you with some instructions on what to do next.

No guarantees but it may help.   :) Good luck

You have to go back to the beginning of the thread but it appears Tina is very keen on letting SS watch her get it on with an assortment of farmyard animals. She's sooooo keen she's e-mail him every day offering to do the dirty deed with eeyore et al.  :(

I've just sent the email to Tina's isp which Smilodon tracked down with the relevant info informing them of the spammer - so i'll wait to see what happens.

I've also registered with Btopenworlds anti spammer group. However next day got another Tina Email so not sure how effective that is or maybe needs longer.

The ISP will probably send you an automated response. Then you just have to wait and see hwat happens and if they are going to do anything about it?
