Okay, before I start wasting my time on something that may not be possible and that people may not want.....

Who would like to see POE2 with AAS restrictions and would you come and play again.

POE2 has the 'Dome of Death', this basically means that the enemy can't camp or fly anywhere near your main base without taking major damage.

I know most of the maps only have 3 capture points, but with small sides and the extra maps and the Vanilla ones (when they're fixed) will mean that AAS is a must.

The last few times some of us have started a game we have quickly been joined by public players and had some pretty good games.

voted yes

Iv'e only played poe a couple of times and it was whackamole.
could definately do with the "Lib" treatment

the last time I was on I got kicked for a PB problem...I had to d/l a file and put it in POE folder....It didn't work so I gave up...I'll giv it another go now in case there's a game tonight

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

PoE never quite worked on my pc. it'd work for a few minutes at a time and then either freeze or just quit. BF2 has experienced similar problems since, though not quite as bad as with POE.

I reckon AAS is the only way to play BF2-style games when there's only a few people about (say 5 a side) which worked for us as we rarely filled the server to capacity. POE2 having larger maps would make AAS style play invaluable, but perhaps you'd want to draft in some help with the programming/map-setting?

...but I don't have time to play much at all these days :|

Come on,

Theres got to be more than 10 BF2 players out there that can persuade me one way or the other.

I've (cough) got a few people to vote. 400 to be precise. Is that enough?

I think POE would definitely benefit from an AAS structure.
If you need/want help with the programming/scripting let us know, must be a few of us who can spare and are able(ish) to take the occasional 20 minutes to throw some code together? :)

My option would be:
I haven't been on POE for ages, but I'll come back if you lads play it.
Survivor of LAN V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIV, XVI, XVIII, XX, XXIV, XXX, XXXII, XXXIV and XXXVI so far...

I don't like AAS. I prefer to go for a flag as a team rather than have to follow a set path.

I think AAS concentrates the team effort and encourages squad based play rather than lone wolf. It certainly works on Project Reality. I've had some cracking games on the PRMM AAS maps. Tactics become a key factor in the win. Pls anyone thats not tried PRMM yet give it a go, it will soon get even better with the release of 0.5 and it has british forces which are much better than those featured in BF2:SF.

And anyone who has played one of those dmw AAS epics on Karkand will appreciate the efforts of Lib in adding in that special coding.

Don't look at me, that map was already coded.

I have modified the code and done the following though:-

BF2
Wake Island 2007
Road to Jalalabad
Stike at Karkand 2

Special forces
Every vanilla map!

And I've now started the merging of the PoE2 & AAS code to create

PAoAES2

Although PoE2:AAS does sound better.

I'll get the vanilla maps working first (as they are already coded) to prove that the code works, then start on the 'PoE2' maps.

This entails pulling the capture point names out of the PoE2 code and loading up the map to plot a suitable AAS route, this has to be done for the 16, 32 and 64 player map versions.

I'll also need to modify the AAS code further to accept the naming conventions of the capture points, not an easy job if the maps have all been coded by different people as they may have made their own standards. If they haven't included the map size detail in the CP names I'll code them for 32 players only and we'll be stuck with that.

This is of course assuming that I manage to get the merged code working.
