Just to get rid of all "feelings" related to the old Guardian and Defender (and Soldier for that sake) ranks, can we also have a rename of the ranks used? I'd be happy if we went back to the original way:

Guild Master
Officer
Officer Alt
Can leave a couple or two "dummy ranks" in between, just to have room for some possible future raiding ranks
Veteran (yes, I think we should bring this rank back, to give just a bit of credit to those that have been with SOG for a looong time (only thing I wonder here: are there now any other than us that are officers that really have been in the guild for really long (I'm thinking like way back since when we had our first Ragnaos kill)?)
Member
Alt
Initiate
Penalty box

If I understood Bastet right, there can be quite a lot of work related to making a new structure, but I'll be happy to take care of that. But don't we also have enough ranks already in the system, so that we'll do fine by just renaming some?

I like the diea of the veteran rank: provided it is handed out with the following proviso:

AVAILABLE TO NON-RAIDERS WHO HAVE BEEN PRESENT IN THE GUILD FROM THE TIME THEODWYN.

If I remember correctly that should give those eligible at least 1 year of service...

Edit: I can think of several - Lillepus, Mirianna, Offen (who signed guild charter!)

Yeah, I came to think of a couple more myself as well: Sitha (Silverthorn) and Dillinja

Edit: Azurei also of course, as he has started playing again as well.
Edit2: Oh, and of course Tenilia/Drazila as well, since he still is around!

was also thinking about including members who spent over a year or two in the guild.

reason, theylle have something to strive or look foward to

I wouldn't see it as a temptation, but more of a reward, or thank you for loyalty.

Which of course is much nicer.

Do we want criteria for it? We could maintain it as a discretionary award by the officers, given to those showing long term membership.

One other possible benefit: would veteran status be enough to allow a longer time offline? (say three months, instead of two?)

Damn! I was hoping I might be the oldest person in guild lol!

I'm pro of these ideas, I think they promote guild loyalty :)

We can also add that we will actively add people to this rank when they reach a suitable guild age and that we don't hate them.
Officer Bambewhistle

Silver Oak Guardians, Aszune

Sheperdbook Lvl 61 Pally

I'm sure there are others too.  Might be wise to ask anyone who thinks they would be eligible for VETERAN to send an ingame mail, or pm to a specific officer.

Seriously, I don't really care whatever you call it, just keep it simple and get rid of the miletary ranks.
And be sure to explain the Veteran rank, it might be offensive to people that we devide the guild in members from the start, and new members, like the "old boys" are more worth.
Ofc people who have been in the guild from the start should've been rewarded for their loyalty. I might just be abit too careful here, but some people might feel offended when we promote members that have been in the guild since the beginning, but are not playing that much? And they might feel they have contributed just as much but wont get awarded.
I too think the rank would be a nice aspect for the oldest members, but I am just trying to look at it from others perspective.
The last thing we want is more disbute over small matters.

I have thought a bit about this matter myself, and I see the potential problem with it. It is not hard to imagine that some (newer) members would find it weird that people like Azurei (had a long break from WoW (for more than a year, if I don't remember wrong)) and Lillepus and Mirianna (that really never were too active in the guild (haven't seen 'em for a long time now either), they were in RG2 for only a short time I think) would get the Veteran rank.

One way to deal with it is to say that you get Veteran when you have been member of SOG for a fixed period of time. If we for instance say 1.5 years (which atm. is August 2005), we would at least cover all those potential veterans that are mentioned earlier in this thread. I don't know how many more would be included if we set the limit to be 1 year?

And just also underline that the veteran rank has no benefits what so ever over normal member rank - it is just to give a small token of rezognization for those that have stuck with SOG for a long time.

Btw, I'm using WarcraftRealms.com when I'm looking for information about people's/character's guild history. I know it ain't 100% accurate (can at least pop up some wrong 'unguilded' entries), but at least for finding an approximate date for how long somebody has been in the guild it works pretty ok.

Are there any other sources we have to retain this kind of information?
