Zok

[1st verse [Oo-backing vocals on each line]]
Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
Hey Joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
Alright. I'm goin down to shoot my old lady,
you know I caught her messin' 'round with another man.
Yeah,! I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady,
you know I caught her messin' 'round with another man.
Huh! And that ain't too cool.

[2nd verse [Ah. -backing vocal on each line]]
Uh, hey Joe, I heard you shot your woman down,
you shot her down.
Uh, hey Joe, I heard you shot you old lady down,
you shot her down to the ground. Yeah!

Yes, I did, I shot her,
you know I caught her messin' 'round,
messin' 'round town.
Uh, yes I did, I shot her
you know I caught my old lady messin' 'round town.
And I gave her the gun and I shot her!

Alright
(Ah! Hey Joe)
Shoot her one more time again, baby!
(Oo)
Yeah.
(Hey Joe!)
Ah, dig it!
(Hey)
Ah! Ah!
(Joe where you gonna go?)
Oh, alright.

[3rd verse]
Hey Joe, said now,
(Hey)
uh, where you gonna run to now, where you gonna run to?
Yeah.
(where you gonna go?)
Hey Joe, I said,
(Hey)
where you goin' to run
to now, where you, where you gonna go?
(Joe!)
Well, dig it!
I'm goin' way down south, way down south,
(Hey)
way down south to Mexico way! Alright!
(Joe)
I'm goin' way down south,
(Hey, Joe)
way down where I can be free!
(where you gonna...)
Ain't no one gonna find me babe!
(...go?)
Ain't no hangman gonna,
(Hey, Joe)
he ain't gonna put a rope around me!
(Joe where you gonna..)
You better belive it right now!
(...go?)
I gotta go now!
Hey, hey, hey Joe,
(Hey Joe)

(where you gonna...)
Goodbye everybody. Ow!
(...go?)
Hey, hey Joe, what'd I say,
(Hey.......................Joe)
run on down.
(where you gonna go?)

QuoteNever liked Hendrix.

I know, I know. But I really didn't rate him at all.

Now David Gilmour ... when he plays he makes the hairs on the back of my neck do the conga.

If hes does that to the hairs on the back of your neck what does he do to your pubes

I prefer the version of Hey Joe from Winterland. Superb real heavy guitar version.  8)

Machine Gun - surely one of the greatest guitar solos ever
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

smilodon

Surely one of the greatest examples of a self indulgent pointless hippy ego trip.

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]

Quotei was very polite

Nope. You weren't.

This is a forum mate. Open to all to express their opinions (within reason). If you disagree with someone's POV then either argue the toss properly or ignore it.

Right - If you dont like jimi (may god have mercy on ya souls) then thats cool!!!!! ya dont understand or feel the power.

Right apologies for the following

voodoo chile(slight return) - woodstock excellent choice sheepster.

Hey Joe - Winterland - exellent choice (scotsman living in england)

All Along the watchtower - Dingo Which live version are you putting forth , he never really got this working live - but man some of the effects he got out of that guitar while trying was awesome.

Oldbloke - David Gilmour was a different style of guitar man - clean awesome control of notes and chords that defines what is "Pink Floyd". I love the floyd and "Shine on you crazy diamond" parts ALL was an inspiration and a joy to listen to. I also love the album "Animals" pigs , sheep and goats - fits in well with our clan member naming system!!!?

Smilodon - ?? it saddens me that one in our midst is vehemently opposed to musical inspiration and the power in live improvisation through the medium of electric guitar .... Jimi Hendrix "A Legend that will live forever in time"

Rad,
never been heavily into Hendrix but I can appreciate a genius when I see one!!. Believe it was the IOW gig I saw on TV way back in the 70's and I was blown away!!  8)  :D

yep that was a good one, early on in the song he wasn't happy with the sounds that were coming out and he vented a bit of anger then he just blazed in all hendrix glory. Also outstanding version of machine gun followed and finished with "In from the storm" where he threw his guitar down and said "God bless and all that other good bullshit" and walked off stage. He was murdered a week later. (conspiracy theory)

I'm not vehemently opposed to Jimi Hendrix. I just don't like listening to his music. I don't find anything inspirational in his guitar solos either. I don't deny that many disagree and that he has encouraged and inspired many to take up guitar and to go on to be famous themselves.

For me that whole sixties thing was something I'm glad I wasn't arround to be part of. While it may have played a part in shaping my world (which is debatable) looking back on the language, fashon and culture of that time just makes me laugh.

Although it was a marginally less rediculous period than the '70's which again I was thankfully too young to get caught up in.

That Hendrix could play guitar there is no doubt. That he could write quality songs is down to personal taste, which can't be universally right or wrong. It just an opinion a person holds. If you liked them then they were great and if you thought they were rubbish then they were indeed riubbish.

His guitar solos had, in my opinion, little or no musical merit. They may have been interesting to hear and it may have required a deal of talent to produce them, but they could just as easily be considered pointless sounds fueled by some Jim Morrisonesque drug induced on stage ego trip, egged on by an equally wasted crowd of posturing posing hippies all desparately trying to out cool and out weird each other. That scene had nothing to do with love and peace but was one glorious pissing contest to see who could be more cool and weird than the next guy.

Of course my generation was no different and I was just as guilty of taking the ego trip as any hippy. Except for me it was Punk Rock that we listened to and Sid Vicious that we worshipped. It was all the same though. Everyone trying to be more Punk and more weird than the next person.

The only difference was we all knew it was a load of bollocks and didn't spend our time kidding ourselves that any of it was serious.

But then again maybe not eh

I suppose its all about the history of the time that determined the social culture.

I also grew up in the early 80's and we use to pogo with the best of em , pistols, ramones , the clash , the damned etc etc but in that time we had no war , no oppression just plain boredom and that is what made punk. Back in the late 60's there was nam , racial inequality , unemployment and lots of drugs.

Then came the lame late 80's and early 90's - Sexually indeterminate keyboard sythesizing makeup freaks that were bored but had good access to drugs and KY jelly. exceptions (U2,Madness and other SKA bands) question to SS were you one of the above?

Anyways no offence taken and none given , but thx for the explanation.

I liked the cover of hey joe by Bodycount :D

although one of the bnads I was in years ago covered purple haze and hey joe (JH versions) because our lead guitarist couldnt do rythm either  we had some songs where we had to plead with him to just play the solo and to not play certain bits in the rythm...
