That is crazy, any other country they'd have gone the extra diistance and helped out, but I guess they were scared of being sued etc for working outside their zone. Crazy country.

Quote"Callaway and his wife are in the middle of a divorce"
"they were planning on remodeling so a lot of their furnishings were elsewhere at the time of the fire"
and
"The residence was previously valued at more than $180,000"
Hmm, I wonder why they would be bothering with remodeling during their divorce!

That $180,000 insurance money could be split between 2 easily and luckily the contents were elsewhere.

Amazing stroke of luck don't you think.

I was thinking along similar lines. It just went a little too far with the fire brigade driving away.

I thought the same.

FWIW, while there seems to be some generalizations going on, it's worth mentioning that the local FDs in Maine often cover each other and more often than not, you will see 2 or more different towns involved in any major scene.  So as an American, even I found that article a bit amazing.

Aye rabbi same over here
even the german fire dept helps out if they need to around here ( an visa versa)
and a "border" seems a bigger step to take to me then a "service zone"

hell even during the big forest fires in portugal this summer they sent manpower and material over, this story, its just unreal
