Hey there ppl :) time to get a new thread going me thinks :) everyone needs a bit of forum time :)

so yeah i've been playin source for a few dayz now and seemed to have got the hang of distance shooting - that btw is just the same as 1.6 bein pretty still when you shoot and doing short bursts if anyone was wondering, but don't seem to understand the close range spraying techniques is the spray just random or can it be learned ? also ppl seem to be better with certain weapons than others this just a personal preference or is it that you have a winning technique with that gun ?

i'm really intrested in getting to know what ppl think about certain skillz of the game you've all playing source for awhile so who better to ask than you guys :D

thought this might be a good idea to get a forum thread of this sort of thing going as i think any serious techniques can be passed on to community making it a tougher more exciting game for all :D

tell me what you think peeps :)

Nep - oh btw another gg for the nights efforts some amazin hs's going on by all hehe and i got knifed :(

DuVeL

Well, in close quarters the P90 is really good for headshots, also the Uzi.

Thing I needed to get used to is the throwing arc with grenades.

For the rest, some people need to check their aim but believe me, the Charlies around here know how to play.

I do have a personal preference over guns, most people do.
I usually prefer the galil over the AK.

The hitboxes in Source have improved but sometimes you still have them weird things going on.

I would say learn the map and after that you will learn the other players fast enough..

And don't be scared about Duvel and his Charlie friends....  That was just crap to say as all the regulars that play on the server knows how to play the game.

As soon as you found your way into the game then it will be easy.

Jim

yep... i agree...

When i first started playing on DMW servers i found it hard to comfront the DMW members as i knew i was gonna get meself trashed everytime :)

But over time you'll gain the skill and the other players tactics and you'll be able to succesfully tackle each player in turn :)

Jimbo

P.S. Hope that made sense :O

I know what you mean Nep about the spraying. Compared to 1.6, I seem to be able to control the spray more.  In other words I can be in mid burst. kill someone (not you obviously) and half way through move my burst to someone else and get them too.

The recoil in 1.6 was so obvious, if I remember rightly the crosshair could end up pointing at the clouds!  In Source it doesn't seem so obvious to see where your bullets are going.

Btw Ice Hawk, you're right about the regulars on Boomer etc being good players.  That's one thing I like about the dMw servers is that the skill level is that much higher than other 'public' servers.  I think Duvel was mearly pointing out that the Charlie company can all play.  I don't think he meant that everyone else cant! :D

Lol, Ice Hawk is an ex-Charly, I guess he's still a bit sore because of it.

Not sure what you mean by your way in the game, there is only 1 way; TCS-way.

@ Jabbs, you're correct.

Know the Maps and combine that with good use of the Mini Map. You can make good guesses of where enemy might be by you team positions, its often easy to deduce where the enemy might be coming from. You should also pay close attention to enemy positions on the mini map and if a team mate dies take a look at the map and see if the killer was spotted.

Get your self a decent headset, sounds are a big give away, from knowing the direction of enemies to map sound triggers. Duvel uses this to devastating effect. ;)

Walk to be silent and crouch when shooting, makes you a smaller target as well. Some of these should be obvious from CS 1.6.

If you want more experience with guns try a gungame server. It's death match and is not a dMw thing, but it can help your game a lot. The basic premise is everyone starts on pistols and to use the next gun you have to kill using the current weapon. The last couple of weapons are usually nade and knife. The winner is the person who gets their knife kill. You also get to steal levels from players by knifing them, so it helps with your knifes skills as well.

Don't tell Nep anything, he seems good enough already:devil:

Have to reply to jamoe.
Crouch when shooting is something I prefer not to do. Sitting duck then.
Move left, shoot burst, move right burst, or left left burst, right right burst.
For me it's also about knowing where you can meet opponents if both sides rush to a certain point.
A decent headset is also a +.
Minimap is good but I really liked the old minimap in CZ and 1.6 as then I could exactly see where someone spotted an enemy (larger map/radarscale).
For the rest, go with the flow (bomb).

Second thoughts I agree about the crouch thing but its something I do when there are team mates around and/or the enemy haven't spotted me.

Knowing the choke points is also a good one, forgot about that one, cheers Duv. It's worth noting this might be different on publics to our TCS servers.

Anyway, look forward to plaing with/against you, just as soon as my PC has been rebuilt.

Get on the same team as Jamoe and Butta.

Crouch or strafe - depends on distance imho. I do both but crouch a bit too much

.....
This is how you should do long range shooting IMO I try and do it when i can instead of crouching.
Also for that short distance spraying if you aim around about the chest area with an Ak47, you will most likely get a headshot from recoil. With m4 aim abit higher about neck level.

At the moment i am focusing on using the scout as if you can manage to learn to use it, youre unstoppable at long and mid distance.

Knifed eh? :norty:

In the bravo section of this forum (which isn't visible for you atm) there is a tips and tricks section that passes on information.  So when you hit Bravo you can read all what is in there and add some more yourself.

Regarding weapons I think the selection is down to personal liking in combination to what map is on. For example you rarely would see me using a scout but rather an Colt/AK/MP5. Kreg for example tends to use the P90 a lot etc. Each weapon has its on characteristics on short and long range. Generally speaking though use short bursts (1-3 bullets) at long range and at shorter ranger the bursts could be greater.

Crouching gives you better accuracy with all weapons and if you are sure that you will land your first burst it could be a good choice. Staying at your feet gives you the mobility but less accuracy. However, I think it all depends on the circumstances i.e. map, amount of enemies, amount of your team backing you up, what enemy you face, close combat or long range. I don't think there is one formula to cover it all.

I do believe that everyone can improve their game very easily though.
  • Learn the map.
  • Use headset or surround system (or both). With a 5.1 headset you can easily pinpoint opponents by sound.
  • Walk or crouch walk as much as possible.
  • Learn sound triggers on each map.
  • Keep your crosshair in head height or at potential camping spots. Never run with it along the ground.
  • Use the radar. Note that you can spot enemies on your radar that others of your team have encountered even though you don't see them.
  • Don't reload immediately rather switch to pistol. Make sure you have a good pistol.
  • Know how to switch quickly to flash and how to counter flash if you just have been flashed.
  • Know your enemy. When dead study your opponent. What do they usually do and how do they play. What weapons do they use?
  • When on the defending team never pick the same defense spot in the following round.
  • Practice running backwards. If you know the obstacles behind you you have a greater chance surviving when you are retreating e.g. when you have been flashed.
Just a few thoughts. Most of them are fairly obvious but still people forget them.
