I was wondering if CoD4 is a game I should consider getting and joining you.
I have heard both positive and negative response, and I just wanted to know what you admins think.

Yes from me. I play both CS and CoD and enjoy both equally.

I would say yes and no. :norty:

The single player part of the game is very good. However it needs a good spec computer. One of the best single player since HL2 I would say.

The multiplayer part of the game has both pros and cons. I think it looks really good. I understand reason behind the rank system but it makes the game biased and it is obvious playing against lvl 55 players.

The game easily turns into sniping wars as it is really difficult to spot the enemy. As you have no money to buy weapons you always have full gear. From my experience of online play there is a lot of camping with sniper weapons, which I am not a big fan of.

Looking at the standard maps there are only a few that are really good if looking at layout and tactics. The other maps are more aimed for deathmatch type of game and that is obvious when looking at the maps being played in the server list. One of the reasons for this is that most of the maps are made for the single player game and then used in multiplayer. Also the same map can be played in many different game types and thus some maps are suited well for bombmaps and not so well for another game type. Compare it to playing hostage rescue or vip on dust2 and you understand why I am not a fan of this approach.

If you compare to CSS I think CSS in general plays DE type maps (search and destroy in CoD4) much better. However, CoD4 has other game types like Headquarters and Domination which are more like BF2/UT and are both fun and interesting tactically.

What it boils down to is if you want to play BF2 without vehicles? As I see it CoD4 doesn't replace CSS but offers something different.

I have it and am slowly working my way up the rankings (whoah, level 6) but tbh have not had too many gripes about L55 players beating down on me - I usually manage to get them back!  It can be sniper alley, but tbh it is more about moving slowly in a group (which would work so much better on a dMw server than a public) and clearing the area towards to objective.  It looks much better than BF2, plays much better than BF2 and my system likes it better than BF2.  Also gone is the annoying aiming 'randomness' of BF2 and I can actually shoot people in COD4.  Enjoying it atm and recommended.

Looking forward to it arriving......

Can hardly wait to achieve the dizzying heights of mediocrity that I have achieved with CS:S :thumbsup2:

If you want to learn the maps there's a server called 'Free Porn 4 all' (yeah wonder why I chose that one). It's a complete anti-dmw type frag fest but I kinda enjoy a 1 minute hit every now and then.

I think once dMw get going on there it will be good, but it really does differentiate between those that are good and those that aren't.

The single player game is the best I've ever played (including HL2 which I still can't be arsed to finish). What I would say is it needs some effor to make sure it doesn't go the way of TF2 which I still like the idea of, but can't be bothered with.
