CS Cant Load Wont load

Hello remember me ? I used to play CS my loyalties have moved to WOW a little bit but... I would like to play CS but cannot get the game to load.:taz:
If I go in through steam or CS direct it loads the  screen then the screen goes totally black.  If I load it by connecting to boomer the screens is the same but i get a repeating sound.
I think I need to get into the set up options and reduce the sound, this worked a few years back but I can't get in if the game won't load... any ideas ??:crying:

Go here and check out the switches for d3d or software and also width of screen. You can also force wav instead of directsound

have a play, one or more of these options should get you in.

Verify you local game files too. Can't do any harm.

Did the above no joy also deleted game content no joy any other ideas ?

try forcing it to start in software mode instead of d3d - that "should" get you to the menu screen where you can play with the options. if you have write protected your config remember to unwrite protect it before starting CS.

Ehrm, I tryed playing CSS today and had to shut off Folding...

Still no joy ( I shut off folding) still get a black screen and PC crashes..defrag on game and HD...

Have you tried smashing your computer into a couple of bits?

Go into Steam
Create a shortcut to Counterstrike on your desktop
add the following to the command line for the shortcut:

-d3d -w 1024 -full -console

and try running it from the shortcut.

Also you may as well go whole hog and make sure you stop any unecessary programs and services running by loading msconfig and deselecting  everything unecessary.  Reboot and try again.

Looks like a hardware problem to me. Have you updated all your video & soundcard drivers?...I had the same problem a while back, (black screen etc), you'd suspect a video problem?..turned out to be a soundcard issue...if you've updated all relevant drivers, try getting a new soundcard that supports surround 5.1......

You can add -wavonly to the command line to disable directsound in case it is causing the problem.

You can replace -d3d with -gl to try OpenGL instead of Direct3D (if your card supports OpenGL)
