Quote from: BlueBall;244992OK. I've just encountered a snag with CoD4; you can't ban someone who isn't on the server :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

That is unless anyone knows what the internal structure of the ban.txt file should be and I could add his name/guid manually

How about banning yourself. Then checking the ban.txt file for the structure. Don't forget to lift the ban when you are done? ;)

In light of the slight hiccup above, it might be worth PMing X to say he has a 24 hour ban coming (with the reason behind it) and to either stay away from the servers for the 24 hours (sensible) or jump on the server with an admin and accept the ban through the game (not so sensible, imho)

Just a thought

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

This is ridiculous! I can ban myself on the server but, you'll love this, CoD4 doesn't update the bans.txt file; it can only read from it.

But if you don't know the structure how do you add the data:ranting2:

And yes Ive googled and tried putting the bans.txt in a players folder off the cod4 main directory but it still doesn't write to it. Once you do quit in console to restart the server all bans are lost :(

Doorman

This is not an excuse for Xenon but something to bear in mind. English is not his strong point. Loads of stuff can get lost in translation. We can easily forget that not all of our 'furrin' members have such a complete command of our very difficult language.

OK sorted! here is what I have learned this morning:
  • When you temp ban you cannot have a ban of more than an hour!
  • When you temp ban it is not written to the ban.txt file but held in memory
  • When you perm ban it is written to ban.txt in the cod4/main folder
  • You can remove a perm ban by using the unban button on the players page of RCONmax (just enter the name of the player i.e. dMw|BlueBall or Xenon - my guess is that it is case sensitive)
  • If you have access to the server desktop you can manually add perm bans to the ban.txt by entering the GUID followed by a space and then the players name e.g. cfbdd15295ff9f3557b775ad3fb2a227 Xenon (you need to make sure there is a carriage return at the end of the file)
I'll add this to the CoD RCON section to ensure it doesnt get lost in the sands of time.

PS, if I forget can we ensure that one of us unbans Xenon on Thursday at some point. I'll drop him a PM.

PM sent to Xenon:
QuoteHi Xenon.

The admins have discussed the fact that in contravention of our rules you gave out the password for our server to somebody that had not registered on the server. We do understand that you were keen for him to join the server but please bear in mind that it only takes a short time to register and then you can get all the passwords from this post.

The admins have decided that you should have a ban from the CoD4 server for a period of 24 hours. The ban will start from the time I type this PM (11:15 UK time on Wednesday morning) and will expire on Thursday morning.

Due to the way that CoD 4 servers work, the ban will not be lifted automatically by the server but will have to be removed by one of the admins. If you find that after midday on Thursday the server tells you that you are still banned then please contact one of the CoD admins and we will get you unbanned straight away.

See you on the server again soon

I have made it pretty gentle in light of Doorman's post reminding me that English is not his first language (nor Xenon's either for that matter :narnar:)

I'll make a post in the announcement section regarding the fact that it will now be a 7 day ban for giving out the password.

And fair play to Xen for accepting the ban graciously and not kicking off, like some would do...
