This thread is part of the preparation for the network planning for the LAN.

If you have a switch that you are happy to bring to the LAN then please post the make and model number of the switch here along with details of any non-standard spec.  This will allow us to see if there is any opportunity to set up ether channel trunking to improve bandwidth.

Please do not post in this thread unless you have a relevant comment to make.

Thank you.

I believe that Tugs can bring a Cisco 2924XL 24 port 10/100 switch.

Dr Sadako

I got a 8 port D-Link DES-1008D 10/100 Switch if needed. I know it isn't much but it can hold 25% of the attendees! :D

guys, conf ALL ports on the switches to FORCE full duplex 100Mbit.

Chances are there will be noone there with a 10Mbit card, and if there is we'll deal with that at the time.

Benny's two cats can run the game network on a 192.168.1.X network.

Then anyone else who can provide pref cats (only one or two needed) can host the 192.168.2.X network for leechin.

Can I have a full attenders list pleae?  I'll post full net configs and ip assignments for everyone BEFOREHAND.

v.simple really,

on both blocks, .1-.20 will be servers and such crap.  .20-.254 can be player ips.

Benny, and other cat owners, we'll assign an ip to each cat so they can be easily managed, unlike last time with the pooey laptop and no passwords!

Can I suggest using the MH password on the switches, we won't forget that.

Or even simpler, cisco or abcdef.

Before the whole network gets up and designed, painted and decorated, let's not forget that we may well  have more switches to add to the list, along with gateway PCs etc.  When we know the full list of kit is then we can discuss how to put the whole lot together in the most effective package.

Nah, make it easy:

One ferkin big switch and only allow netbios or IPX/SPX

//me gets coat and leaves!

I was musing that it would probably be cool to get a couple of ports EtherChannelled together between the switches on the gaming LAN, and even more so on the leeching LAN. Otherwise more often than not, the bandwidth between the switches could end up being the bottleneck.

One to decide later, I'm sure.
