To be honest, a lot of the side quests I thought were a bit same-y and dull. It was the main plot I thought was really good.

True and that is actually my point. At that stage you should've been sucked hopelessly in

Le Rouge

First time you take your own ship, you need to choose if you go to one of two stars, or to look for some scientist - which was what I chose. After an enjoyable ride in some vehicle, I am now constantly defeated by some major aliens dropped from a spaceship of a kind...

and BTW, wh ois your fav team?

Your fav team is those you have met and join ranks with. For each mission you select three, I think it is.

Aliens - hmm, not sure. Be sure to hang back and use both types of guns on the vehicle?

Hmm, what class are you and are you making good use of your team members? You can specifically get them to use certain abilities on the enemy via the tactical interface. I've just started playing it again on PC, and I was getting owned until I remembered that and started telling Kaidan to throw the bigger enemies around with his biotic powers.

Personally, I really like Garrus (the Turian you get in your team from the security forces on the Citadel [I initially wrote 'Citadel Station', then remembered that was System Shock ]), and Liara (the Asari who you're working to free in your current mission). I tended to use them most of the time, but switch to certain other characters if I knew I was going to a planet they had a vested interest in.

As to classes, I went soldier first off, got the unlock via that that allowed me to give other classes who wouldn't otherwise have been able to use them use of the assault rifle, then tried other classes. Engineer, for e.g. is virutally impossible to use until you've got an unlock like this and can give them an assault rifle or whatever.

Am now fighting this bitch (Liara's mother?); a hard fight...
Two questions:
1. How do you use the quick slots?
2. Almost all the lockers I encounter are "Decryption skill too low" - where do I upgrade this skill?

Two questions:
1. How do you use the quick slots?

Hold whatever key you use to access the Tactical HUD (I think the default is space or something), which also freezes the action. Along the bottom of the screen are your weapons and available abilities like overcharge and the like. Drag and drop these abilities into the quickslots. Then, during combat, press the number key associated with the quickslot to activate that ability.

You can also activate these abilities by accessing the tactical HUD and just left clicking on them. This is the only way to manually activate the abilities of your squadmates, who show up on the left and right of the Tactical HUD, as they cannot be quickslotted. Did you not get the tutorial about all this? I was having the same issue when I was still on Eden Prime, but during a few of the combat scenes tutorial notes popped up telling me this.

Quote2. Almost all the lockers I encounter are "Decryption skill too low" - where do I upgrade this skill?

It's a skill you upgrade by spending XP in it, the same as everything else, but it's only avaialabe to specific classes (namely those with an engineer leaning). Whenever you gain a level and get XP your squadmates will as well, and you can either auto-level them up or manually assign their points. Note also that every squadmate gains XP when you do, so if you gain 3 levels on a mission then change squadmates for the next mission then your new squadmates will have 3 levels worth of XP waiting to assign.

I know Kaidan and Garrus have access to the Decryption skill. I *believe* that the skill required to try and break a lock is dependant on who you have with you, so you don't need levels in decryption yourself, you just need someone on your squad at the time who has the required level. Same goes for stuff like First Aid as I understand it. If you have a squadmate with high first aid, then whenever you use medpacks you'll get the bonus of that high first aid score. I could be wrong about that though, as it's a while since I played it.
