Hi Racers,

I was talking to the mighty Delanvital about what facebook was the other day but when we got that out of the way we were chatting about LFS and I felt a yerning to set up the wheel and start racing again.

Entering the dMr forum section I noticed there are now 3 sims being raced here Netcar, rfactor and LFS.

My questions are:

What are you opinions on the three?
Are you guys still heavily into LFS or do I need to invest in a new sim to join you online?

Cheers

Zoot

I think it's safe to say that LFS is still DMR's main sim, but we have branched out quite a bit. After trying other sims such as NKP, iRacing and rF (with quality mods) a number of us have come to the conclusion that LFS is really not that great and is actually quite dull and boring to drive, so we spend more time in other sims.

Unfortunately these other sims have less active online communities (except for iRacing) and public online racing is hard to find. For that reason we try to organize little events where we all get together on a server (usually Ron's :)) and have a good time.

If you're looking to get back into simracing I would advise you to go with LFS for now, even though I'm one of the people who thinks it's actually the "worst" sim of the three I'm currently active in. But it's also by far the easiest to set up and get into and there's plenty of online racing to be found, so that's your best bet :)

Thats your opinion, the majority of people in dMr still find LFS a very satisfying sim to race. :narnar:

rFactor is great and there are superb mods. NKPro has an updated version out and another update out soon. I dont get on with it, but others love it.

iRacing is in a league of its own, but its a sim you can never own, only rent.
Its not the way I want to race but to each their own.

The answer is to try a free demo of them all (except iRacing where you pay for a months trial) and see which one appeals to you the most. Everyone's idea of which is the 'best sim' is different. You'll come to your own conclusion and you'll be right! :)

Exactly, Doorz :) I said that LFS is still DMR's "main" sim, ie. the sim the most of us drive. And I, indeed, said that a number of us have come to the conclusion it stinks :) Pretty clear IMO *shrug*

I would not say and have never said LFS 'stinks'.(we might want to go back to it one day. It happened before!) As a sim it's still hanging on and with whatever is in the pipeline it will get better. In fact, I'll go as far as to say that there are very few pure simulators on offer i.e. where you do the driving not the pc. nKPro, LFS, iRacing and provided you turn ALL the helps off rFactor. So the choice isn't that great. Plenty of racing games though.

But let's not squabble eh? We're all simmers here whichever flavour we prefer.
:D (another goodwill smiley)

Well I sniffed LFS and it smells like warm dust.

Yeah, I just said it stinks to just provoke some people a little :norty: It's obviously one of the best sims out there, but as you said as far as real sims go there aren't really that many alternatives. I'm not abandoning LFS either, but mainly because it's so hard to find online pickup racing in the other sims.

LFS is a strange one. I find that it has some odd alluring appeal. It doesn't have the best graphics or the greatest sounds, but even so.. it has a weird freshness to it, the graphics and the physics seem to have a unique appeal over all the other sims for me.

I enjoy all the sims really, and I find that even though there are certain things I think are better in other sims (namely sound and graphics) LFS has a charm that means I end up back where I started before long.

I have lost count the number of times I have thought, screw this, then a couple of months later gone back and it being like a brand new game. :lmfao:
