Today I had a look around to try and find more co-op missions that are suitable for 5-10 players.  I couldn't find many though this is partly due to the fact that a lot of them require additional mods (perhaps we should look into adopting the TG mod pack, which I believe adds some nice functionality and would make more missions compatible?).

Being that the game is so open-ended and ships with a built-in editor I thought it might be an idea to have a go at creating our own missions tailored to our needs.  I've messed about a bit with the editor and have a rough idea of how it works together with the scripting language so...

What I really need are some ideas for a mission that I can have a crack at creating. Any suggestions?

It is tough to find good missions without needing add-ons. I was hoping to have some word about official support before we spend time finding add-ons and custom writing missions.

But when we do I will defiantly lend hand.

Whitey would running a 2nd sever using the second NIC stop the IP swapping.

I was sat thinking about making our own missions as I read the manual this afternoon and as a result I cant remember what the manual said.

I thought of a mission where there is a full functional chopper in the middle of a small village and a hostage being held in the local church.

There are bad guys and civvies around the town, the church is fairly heavy with defence.

Mission: get the hostage and fly out!

@Zoo: I like that idea, not too complex, could be perfect for a first attempt. :thumb:

Do share. :)

No, you can't assign the Arma server to a NIC, that is the main issue and so we would have two servers swapping instead of one.

Had another play around with some success.

- Figured out how to add the the revive/respawn/mobile tent script.
- Figured out how to set up custom gear loadouts for each class.
- Figured out how to how to add enemy AA guns that take out aircraft (and infantry as I discovered :()
- Found a very nice built in feature called the Ambient Combat Module which (if you can set it up right) will randomly spawn friendly/enemy units in your area and simulate an ongoing battle - gives some varied and interesting encounters, need to tweak it a bit though  as I played RUS vs CDF and those ruskies had a habit of spawning a battalion of T90s and massacring everyone. :P

A few thoughts.

Grass/no grass?  I noticed last night that one of our popular missions Silent Wind has the grass turned off.  This makes the landscape look a little ugly and barren, but on the other hand it does slightly improve the gameplay imho as the bots are rather annoying when they don't see the grass and can shoot you through foot high undergrowth.  (Side note, I think one of the beta patches adds a proper 'grass layer' which solves this problem, might be worth a look).

Ambient Combat Module - I love this.  None of the missions we currently have uses it but while playing around making a mission I've added it in and I can happily run around playing for some time, even though I haven't added any objectives yet.  Every time I load the mission to test it something new happens - last night I put together an enemy AA gun emplacement for the mission I'm making.  I loaded it up to test and after a couple of minutes a friendly chopper patrol passed overhead and got torn to pieces by the flak.  Thirty seconds later another chopper swooped in low over the ridge and obliterated the AA emplacement with a volley of rockets. :D  Then an infantry patrol backed up by a BTR came out of the treeline and gunned me down. :(

I can see why people might not add it to missions as it adds a lot of randomness and might take away some control over what happens and when, but personally I think it would be quite fun to have a mission objective to try and carry out in the middle of a war going on around you. I'll be trying to make a mission (simple to begin with) that includes it.

I also thought it might be fun to modify some of our existing missions to include it?  Missions like Hunt Waldo in particular would be good (and possibly easier) with random friendly and enemy units joining the fight.

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Pretty sure you can, they just go in the right steam apps folder.

Sure, but I don't really know how to do much at the moment except place units, I've mostly been looking at the scripting side which is where all the customising is done.
