For those at the LAN who kept trying to join the same server and then all got kicked I have hopefully found the answer.  I knew I had read it somewhere.  From the official forum.

If you are on the same connection with the same outside ip and try to join the same server, both clients will drop out of the server because both clients are using the same game port of 10000.

With one computer make a shortcut of bfbc2game.exe and add -port 10001 to the end

Quote:
"E:\Battlefield Bad Company 2\BFBC2Game.exe" -port 10001
Make sure each computer is using a different port and it should be fine.

This may make next LAN easier for BC2 players.

as long as the link can survive the bandwidth.. :D

Just a thought.. Could this have been the issue with LFD2?

No. Not that simple I'm sorry to say.

Unlike L4D, you cannot change the L4D2 game mode from anywhere other than the lobby. Joining our LAN servers worked but you were stuck in 4 player coop mode. Both Whitey and I Googled for ages looking for a solution to no avail. As with ArmA2, you have to start a local server on your PC and then others can join. However you then fall foul of the infamous dMw LAN networking gremlin that only allows half the people who want to join see your server. This is the single most irritating issue that I am determined to iron out before the next LAN (with your assistance I hope, Ninja). When we did some testing using ArmA2 we discovered that at least some of the problems were down to over zealous firewalls.

Maybe we need to include instructions for people to add the LAN VLAN to their trusted networks in their firewalls?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Indeed. For every flavour apart from XP which, ISTR, is unaffected.
