This is an area of great contention, so here is the way that the Dead Men Walking community currently views the use of the AWM sniper rifle and the Auto-Sniper.  

You should not use the AWM or the Auto-Sniper when it will significantly hinder gameplay.  

Background, Reasoning & Definition of "significantly hinder gameplay":
  • It is generally accepted within the CS community that the programmers have still got it wrong with the AWM.  Compared to other sniper rifles available the AWM is still far too powerful within the CS physics model.  Since the one of the December 2003 updates for Steam was issued, the Auto-Sniper is now also way too powerful and complained about widely within the CS community.
  • TCS is primarily about tactical, team & objective-based CS.  But it is also about ensuring good gameplay - this is why when you join the server you will often see one side with a few more players than the other.  It's not accidental, it has been done to try to even up 'win' potential for both teams on a map that is biased towards one team, or where a group of better players are all on the same team.
  • When you are on a map that has a bias (e.g. cs_siege), it is very easy for a single T to buy an AWM or Auto-Sniper and then control the entire game.  This does not make for good gameplay.  Put simply, the AWM or the Auto-Sniper with their mismatched physics model can ruin the game play on any number of maps.
  • The Dead Men Walking community caters for a wide range of player abilities.  On the right team and on the right map, a talented player with an AWM or Auto-Sniper can extinguish all game play.  This is enjoyable for the sniper, but not for anyone else.
  • The competition section of the Dead Men Walking clan regularly play in league matches (on average three times per week) and the AWM/Auto-Sniper is a weapon often used in these matches.  It would therefore not be helpful to completely ban the AWM/Auto-Sniper on the server as it does stop the practice of a legitimate competition skill.
  • "So can I use the AWM/Auto-Sniper or not?" Currently the answer is Yes, but with some qualification:  You should not use the AWM/Auto-Sniper when it will significantly hinder gameplay.
  • "What does that mean?" we hear you say.  Well, the interpretation of this rule on the Dead Men Walking community servers has come to mean that nobody should use an AWM/Auto-Sniper where the winning team has a lead of less than 4 rounds.  If a team has a 4 round or greater advantage, then the losing team COULD use the AWM/Auto-Sniper, BUT, very great thought should be given to whether this is the best way to rebalance the game.
  • Often, rebalancing the numbers on each team will have better game play results than just spending your dollar$ on an AWM/Auto-Sniper.  But YOU are the one in that position and YOU need to make that decision yourself.  If you abuse the discretion allowed to you on this server then an Admin will firstly comment politely, then warn you politely, then kick you, politely of course  :wink:
  • For the sake of clarity, the above and all Dead Men Walking community members, whether it's your first visit to our community, a long-standing Member or an Admin, it still applies.

For a trial period until the end of January 2004, this rule has been updated to include the Auto-Sniper.  The Admins are aware of members' concerns and will monitor the rule change and its effects.  If it does not work  well enough then we will re-assess matters and take appropriate further action.

Being new to CS, I may just be biased against facing AWP or Auto-Sniper but may I suggest a guideline of percentage of opposing team kills. That, if you choose to use these weapons, be ready to drop the weapon from a round where you have reached the percentage kill rate...that rate based on percentage of opposing team members at the begining of the round.

That will be very difficult.

Only the loosing team (if you are 4 rounds down) may use a awm or autosniper.

So you don't have to be scared to get shot by a awm everytime or that a player get all the kills with one of the two snipers.

But that is my opinion.

As Ice said that will be difficult to enforce. I think the rules we have currently are one of the fairest ways of doing it. They have been in place for a while now and work well for us.

I practiced my AWMing on the CS:CZserver, us against all bots. Is it then still allowed?   :unsure:

As I've posted elsewhere ...

All community members should play in a TCS style on the CZ server. We want to show non-members how we play CS here at dMw in the hope that we pick up more like-minded players.

For me............Too be on the safe side

If humans are on the other side dont use it...If non dmw players/bots use them (impossible to stop) show them elightenment and shoot em with a pistol  

:D ......AWP practice is good on the other 10,000 servers out there :D but not good at promoting TCS :dmw:

Excuse me, I thought Homer was the public server that was being used to enlighten the world.(not that I ever see anyone on it) Or have I misunderstood? CZ ought to be played as the bots play it. Let it be free of 'can I go there?' and 'can I use this?' It's good to free of constraints once in a while. LET'S KICK ASS!  :)

I think that AMW should be allowed to 1 per team, but Autosnip I don't like so much becouse it's too powerfull to this kind of game where we are running around in a wery little area. And if the game gets too ruff, the ADMIN could just deny the AWP. As u all know we have to follow the rules in dMw maps or get kicked:roflmao:  
   And if not in Boomer, I think it should be allowed in MeatHook where there are playing only clanmembers:D

Alll dMw fellas with Red switching to CT side and he's the only one there and the rest of the T's fellas are dMw. I dropped my AWM after a little commend of Red (Comment was: You're trying the sniperrifles?, or something like that). I was tho but drpoed it after the question. Still:  :unsure:[/QUOTE]

Dude, why are you posting here, one of the last comments was from 2004 :lmfao:.
For the rest: CZ= Counterstrike Condition Zero. We've played it way back but now play Counterstrike Source.

Why jump down the guy's throat? He's obviously tried to search the forum for an appropriate thread and post in that.
This thread, a sticky, is about sniper rifles isn't it? :angry:
