Learning the car /track combo, is one thing, but the biggest difference to get consistent laps for me, are the Force Feedback settings.

I was initially running way to high forces, so bumps and curbs were firing me way offline / off into the barriers etc. When I reduced the gain 10-15% so the wheel wasn't nearly being ripped from me hands, then I became much more consistent. I had to bump my min forces up a bit to compensate at the bottom end, but for anyone else struggling, its worth a go.

Utterly utterly bonkers combo, I see 6min 29sec best lap atm. CRAZY.

P.S. Neys, I presume the 'Unknown' lap validation thing, is because the time time was done on lap one, so a complete lap cant be verified as it was started on the grid after the timing line.

Well, after an evening of weirdness, with from my point of view the DMW servers going up and down like a fiddlers elbow, (Forum, TS and Race server unavailable intermittently though the evening.) and where I could not get within a couple of seconds of my Offline lap times, while on the Dead Men Racing server, I tried some hotlaps offline with a very slightly looser version of my set. I immediately did 3 new PB laps in a row!

It only felt slightly different Offline to Online, mostly just feeling slightly more stable under braking and into the turns, I had just as many tank slappers.
What time of day / temps did you have set on the server Seany, as I'd like to try the settings offline. I just can't figure out the differences. Though as I said on TS, the temp indications on the tyre temp app where showing vastly different colours, for the same temps, on two different connections to the server. Were there any other restrictions or enforcement's on the server? I normally lap in pretty much identical times offline to online.

Perhaps the issue was simply due to the crazy connection to the DMR servers.

yeah network stuff was weird all right.  Blindfury had TS probs and Twiggy too.  You, both TS and DMR server/Assetto.  Strange.

Temps online are Air-20° Track-22° (08:30)

...I did just have a thought though...  I forgot ( I blame neys too :P ) to mention that the Server is locked to Standard Road tyres (not 90's or slicks, just the ones in the middle).  :roflmao:

Deetz

Well yes, that would certainly explain the difference.:frusty:

May have been worth mentioning on the Track / Car combo announcement screen, so setups are developed for and practice made on the right combination.

:taz: Ah, well. Onwards and upwards.

Aarrgghh, I cant make a decent race set, the thing is just so Drift orientated. Sideways sideways sideways.

Could be spending Monday playing DiRT Rally instead.

Dang, really? It's not a drift car (not the S2 version we are using anyway), it's just a slightly modified road/tack car.  I can do 6 lap race no probs with the default setup.  Don't you think it handles pretty much like the XRT?  Surely you haven't been away from LFS for that long ? :P

I have to admit I am a bit frustrated by how folks seem to judge the car based on the fact it is a modified Japanese car with a drift skin :/ .  I have seen a few people now judge it too quickly and presume it's not raceable as it has some slight drift/ Jap mod connections.  Once you watch the throttle input it's fine, in fact I thought it was kind of refreshing to have a road car that was not so heavy to the under-steer side of things but more about what you do with your right foot.  Ahh well, I liked it :( .   It has no special steering lock for drift or tyres or other mods related to being specific for drifting, it's pretty much just a stock (albiet frankstein :) ) Nissan 180.

Go on, give it another try!  :)

Deetz

1st of well, I love these cars, a mate of mine had either a 180 sx or an S13 200sx, and I used to own a middling modified S14 200SX, which I really really liked, and regretted selling for a couple of years,  but I still can't  put more than half a lap together in this version. I imagine with the old physics it being a ball to drive.

Although I haven't spent hours and hours on it I've had a couple of sessions trying to get a set I can live with, but I just cant get anything I can push with.

I'll be on tomorrow, but I'll be at the back attacking the scenery with gusto, till I get too ****ed off with it.

Ahh interesting, I can't argue with real world experience, I'm stuffed there  .  Though the guy who created it owns a Sil80 and based it off that, one modified Road/track version and 3 drift versions.  Do you find it much more oversteery then say the RUF or Lotus49/ Cobra/ F40?  To me it has similar level of tailiness to these cars but it is more predictable and catchable.  I think the level of care with throttle input is about the same as the RUF.  I also find it very similar to how you had to drive cars like the Xrt/Fz5 in LFS.

It will be great if ya can pop on for a little bit tomorrow, help me get the server seeded (if ya can't get on with it after a race or two, np, I wont hold it against ya :D ).  I have had a couple of guys online, had some good races with them.  Hopefully they be on tomorrow too.    But yeah, I'll put my hand up...perhaps a bit of a bogey combo

Should be fixed now, I had the wrong version of the track surfaces.ini on the server.  Sorry about that  , thanks for reporting Marco!

Deetz

hmm, there looks to be server downtime planned for the server this evening (BA5) which as far as I can tell, is the server we run on, so it looks like no play tonight.
