btw;
I'm not active these days, I am redecorating my living room, halls and stairs. (ripping down walls,, putting up new ones.) I got to be done before the LAN trip, because they are doing the ceilings when we are away. So I'll see you all at the LAN.

Nice 2 way trade run going on right now LFT 1446 station name Bosch Settlement with Beryllium netting a profit of over 1300CR per unit when sold at Bacquerel Gateway Alrai System. Take Gold (yes there is loads of it!) back to LFT 1446 and net similar amounts. I got 82K CR for a 2 way run with my 32 Ton Cobra! Maybe even get a mission for Gold at the destination station!

Warning, on returning to 1446 watch for the almost black star you enter the system next to, for too closeness! It's practically invisible.

Ambient Oclusion (AO) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbWV58AH9eg

Check this out and maybe turn AO to off on Elite to stop the lag in Frame Shift. Then turn on SSAO which is what nVidia call DSR and is a low CPU alternative although I haven't found it anywhere yet in the nvidia settings so any ideas let me know.

Very good video.

Quote from: albert;390619... and maybe turn AO to off on Elite to stop the lag in Frame Shift.

Last night I thought the lag I experience when approaching a target station in frameshift was better having turned AO off. Not the case I'm sorry to say. It's still there

Mine is almost gone. No 1 second stalling just the odd jerk. It must be something they're aware of and working on, surely.

My trading strategy and findings (Wall-o-text incoming!)

Starting out
I won’t get super in depth here as the “how” isn't as important as the end state. Even then, this is only a suggestion to make life a little easier while looking for trade opportunities.
Basically, the first thing I would suggest is grinding simple trade or missions till you can afford a Hauler and a better FSD. Granted, even a Sidewinder with a better FSD will function for the most part but the expanded cargo and jump distance potential of the Hauler personally makes it the better choice, even before starting actual dedicated trade. The reasons for this, aside from the obvious, is because my methods do require you to actually find systems and then investigate which can mean lots of jumping and the longer your range, the less tedious it becomes.
Also important â€" Learn!
It may seem obvious but the single best thing that has helped me is learning more about the different economies and getting a better understanding of what they need and what they produce. I will admit that even now I’m still no expert but the fact that I know generally what commodities each type of economy deals in, it makes looking for profit much easier. This is vital to my next/first step in the actual process since it gives you the ability to look at systems in the Galaxy map and determine if they are potential candidates for good routes.
The Actual Process/What I've learned
The initial process involves figuring out which systems are worth investigating. Obviously this is done via the Galaxy Map. The primary things you’re looking at are:

  • Population

  • Economy type/s

  • Distance between systems
POPULATION
Under the View Tab in the galaxy map, set the population min slider to around 66% and then bring the max slider to around the same setting but a bit higher. This hides the low population systems and gives you a good visual representation of population size of the bigger ones, especially when zoomed out on the Galaxy Map.
I've been working off the idea of the higher the better (in the Billions) but anything in the realm of 500+ million will likely have good yields in something. If you check in the system view, look at the stations and look for Large, Very Large and Huge Population in the station description as well as the word Wealthy (Though I’m still trying to determine EXACTLY how Wealthy plays into the results but I’m still collecting data/examples).
Now the reason why I do this is because your best trading routes are going to be from stations with HIGH SUPPLY to stations with HIGH DEMAND and thus far it’s been my experience that high population systems/stations are the only consistent way of determining where you will find this. You can still make decent profit off trading MEDIUM SUPPLY to HIGH DEMAND or HIGH SUPPLY to MEDIUM DEMAND but it’s not ideal but worth keeping in mind for follow on trips or more complex routes.
ECONOMY TYPE/S
After you have the population slider set, you then can start filtering economy types to find potential candidates. This is where the knowledge of the items each individual economy offers is useful. For example, I personally have been starting my searches with Refinery economies because they more often than not, have all the metals, with the exception of Palladium and Platinum, in high supply which usually have the best average profit margin (Gold for example between a High Supply to High Demand is >=1k Cr profit per tonne).
Once I've found a candidate, I will then unfilter economy types based on what I want to trade. In this case, since I want to move metals, I start with Industrial, High Tech and Terraforming. You may need to play with the population sliders to see a few more systems but ideally you’ll be moving between high population systems. So finding a cluster of them in close proximity is ideal if only because of jump limitations with a full cargo hold.
Now one thing to keep in mind is if there are no systems of those types close by or they are low population, all is not lost. If there is a large cluster of High Population systems around your starting point, the fact that some systems have multiple economy types can make it all better. For example, I was making my initial money off a high supply refinery moving gold to a high population Agriculture/Terraforming system. The single Terraforming station within the sector had high demand for gold and had I just dismissed the system based on filtering out Agriculture I would have missed it.
DISTANCE CONSIDERATIONS
Another thing to keep in mind is distance between systems, since if you max out a hauler at 22 cargo capacity, your jump distance will obviously suffer with a full hold. Also worth looking at is the individual stations distance from the main star. I tend to stay away from multi star systems where the stations of interest are located around the secondary or tertiary star because screw 100K Ls distances. Not always the case granted but often enough to keep an eye out for.
Now granted some of the distance considerations are based on personal preference since some people hate travel, others don’t mind it. Things being closer do allow you to make money faster however.
The “work” Portion
Now once you've used the above and found potential candidates the actual work part starts. Make your way to the identified starting system and once there, investigate each station with a commodity market. Now you can hand write, make a spreadsheet, whatever you want but you’re probably going to want to record some information. If you so desire, you can record the prices, demand and supply of everything but it’s not necessary in my opinion.
Here’s what I do. I scroll through the list and record the items it has in high supply and then what it has in high demand. I do ignore certain items regardless of demand/supply like scrap, waste, etc since the profit off them even at best is maybe 50cr. I do this for each station in the system with a commodity market, regardless of economy difference or otherwise. This is because two Wealthy Huge Population Industrial stations in the same system can and often do have slightly different supplies and demands.
Once I got the first system done, I then start investigating the other systems, visiting the stations and recording the notable demand and supply of commodities. How far out you investigate depends mostly on how far you’re will to travel. I personally try to keep it within a jump or two, fully laden.
After you’re satisfied with your information collection or found the jackpot you can start looking through it and determining your best profit. How simple or complex you make the route is entirely up to you. In my example above, my initial money was made moving Gold but it was only one way, so it was kind of boring and inefficient. Right now I’m working on a multiple stop route that is far less boring and is making me at least some money on each stop.
END
So there it is, that’s been my method so far and it’s working out pretty well. I’ll admit that it does require some of the Spreadsheet Commander stuff that some people dislike but really how much of that you do is up to you. I’m personally going a little more in depth than needed because I’m trying to get a better understanding of how the market/trade system functions so I can contribute some to the wiki (what’s random, what’s determined by economy, wealth, population, etc).
On that a few things of note that I've learned to be true, at least within my data sample:

  • Higher Population correlates to demand and supply levels, with populations in the billions consistently having the most High Supply/Demand items.

  • Specific demands/supplies are tied to economy type with some small variation. The specific supply level of each appears to correlate directly to the population size and possibly wealth with some small variation which could be random or tied to local trade routes. The specific demand levels tend to have more variation than that of supply, though as of yet I haven’t gathered enough information to determine if this is random or based on other market factors.

  • The trade route data in the galaxy map is not always a good indicator of a profitable route. While it can be, it’s not consistent enough to replace actual information gathering. One thing it is consistently good for is finding a system with a specific commodity. This can be useful for fetch missions from bulletin boards.

  • This last bit is speculation but I think faction status may impact trade prices but I can’t say for sure. During my initial money making process I got friendly status with the station I was selling to and was selling gold for higher than before and while there was a GalNet message that mentioned gold was downtrending (shouldn't it be the opposite?) I noticed other materials seemed to be bought at a better price as well but I didn't record data at the start so I can’t stand 100% by this.
As I said, this is all based on my observations and findings. Though it has been consistent for me, when you take into account the sheer number of star systems at play my data set is pretty small so things could very well be different elsewhere. So if anyone has noticed anything counter to what I've found or in addition to it, please do share! Like I said, I kind of want to contribute to the wiki so the more accurate this information the better but I figured I would share what I have found in case it could help some fellow traders.

Okay, don't blow yourself up with self-destruct! The beacon is now automatic!

Quote.. it happens automatically, but you need to completely drain both  your main tank and your reservoir. This can take a while as you may have  a small amount remaining in the main fuel tank (although not enough to  jump) which will top up your reservoir when it empties.

Just point yourself in a direction and continue super cruising towards  it, you'll burn fuel faster in Super Cruise and if you're moving then  you'll reduce the risk of interdiction. When you're close to emptying  out your tank be sure to drop your speed to <1000 km/s to prevent [hull]  damage when you drop out of Super Cruise.

You should be approached by another ship, as previously, but be prepared to pay over the odds for your refill.

The fuel will likely cost a lot less than ship replacement insurance if you have upgraded your ship in any way. If not, self-destruct and select a free Sidewinder. Your cargo will be lost though, which like upgrades, could cost you dearly if you're stuck without a fuel station or left with a fuel scoop and no viable sun to scoop from!

I have finally sorted my connectivity problems. I've been using TP-Link Powerline connectors for the past 7 years without problems until Elite was resurrected.
I decided to try  a CAT cable between my Sky router and the PC and the connection has remained solid. However SWMBO is not to happy with the cable snaking up  the stairs, so I've ordered a new wireless card and hope that will do the job.

Good to hear Bob.

I did an exercise with a powerline setup my mate gave me as he had no luck with it. I basically plugged one next to the router and then proceeded to plug the other one on every power point in the house and do a speedtest on it. Remarkable what the differences were. Small bedroom, 20Mbps, with a 150Mbps powerline adapter, second socket on the same wallk point, 45Mbps! Opposite side of the wall, like 10 inches away from the first 2 sockets, 60Mbps. Down stairs lounge, 130Mbps, so it get used for the TV. I run a cable for gaming, all the way down the stairs! And she who must be obeyed seems fine with it as it's tidy. I simply avoid all wifi related goods for gaming, no mouse, no keyboard, game controllers, networks, all wired.

I assumed everyone would know this but actually it's not obvious.

Under the Galaxy Map, Navigation you can choose Fastest OR Economical as your plotting option. If you are on a long journey, choosing Economical will make the trip a long affair, so choose fastest. It could be the difference between 2 and 8 hops even for a 15LY trip.
