I really like it, but it's way too expensive for the models that are really useful.  I'll probably get one at some pint, but it won't be for a while yet.

Certainly high spec but very much a novelty. I have a Samsung Slate touch screen tablet with an additional keyboard, i5, 256GB SSD, 4GB Ram and it'd very nice, but not something I need any longer. If you're interested check the for sale forum pages. A lot cheaper than the MS Surface 3.

Anyone remember the i7 windows 8.1 Dell tablet that Sky had at the LAN? We managed to get those for £400 a pop and its currently the Mrs'es machine/bedroom PC. This is pretty much the same thing to me but just a much higher pricetag.

Half a price and its a much more attractive deal =).

Totally agree. When I played with the Pro version I loved it and wanted one ... but not at 1500 a pop (plus another 100 for the essential keyboard).

By the time you get the VAT Back (20%) and then deduct the income tax (40%) ...... it's almost there :norty: but yes, very (too) expensive. Especially as you say when you add the essential keyboard and the rather excellent docking station.

Spec-wise though it's not bad innit.

Albert, will check the forum pages. I'm not really into the market for anything as yet as I currently use this Lenovo  (albeit with 8gb ram) in addition to my behemoth Asus G750JH for big work and an iPad for play but this or similar would make a nice addition combining the Lenovo and iPad into one.

Got the Surface 3 pro i5, 8 Gig ram, 256Gig SSD model.. I absolutely love it, using it as my only work machine and laptop these days. Runs like a charm.

Even had a few games of CSGO on it ;)

Nice.

Apparently the Surface Pro 4 is due to be launched later this year with 1TB and 16GB ram. It was also suggested the price would be dropped to make it more affordable. So wait and see I guess.

Been keeping my eye on this one.

Really liked the look of the 1TB version but it's only available in the US currently. Shame.

I know it's expensive but it's also a nice bit of kit.

Currently testing the Surface 4 pro 256gig/16/i7, and sadly it seems to have the same issues as the Surface 3 pro has with thermal issues.

It seems that after 3-4 months, the thermal efficiency of the cooling goes down the drain, it starts to do some heavy throttling with just a single browser running. Decreasing performance to about 50% :/ So far we have returned 400-450 out of 1100 Surface 3 pro, and 8 of our 10 Surface 4 pro exibit the same behavior :(
Its really a shame as the surface is a brilliant piece of kit when running! I love the flexibility it adds to your work day.

The surface book on the other hand looks really impressive so far, sadly we have only been able to get our hands on two so far. And i weren't the lucky one this time.

Wow, that's really useful thanks.

How many of these things to do buy at a time lol.

I'll have a look at the Surface Book next.

Mailed a bit with the chaps at iFIXIT about the Thermal pad, and sadly it seems MS used Intel default crap thermal pad.. so the guess was that the thermal pad becomes solid after a few months, and thermal transfer efficiency goes down the drain. Its a shame, as i really loved the surface.

well have around 22000 domain users atm, which all needs a new PC, so we buy in large numbers :P

The Surface book is a bit expensive, tho it does look like they just added those extra bits of awsome. And it has a discrete GPU!

I'm considering the Surface book as my new company computer actually. As I need to have a computer with me, but don't really use it that much.

Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

Not much, just spend a single hour or so with it, tho it should arrive on my desk next week when the SCCM dudes are done with it. So ill get the chance to test it out proper :)
Yet with the little hour i tried it, it honestly felt the best laptop ive ever had. Performs quite well, built quality was off the charts, transition from laptop mode to tablet was perfect, and everything was well balanced and performance top notch, from what i could feel from a single hour of usage. It seemed well worth the price.
