Hi Commanders,

In the beginning, we had at one point 20 people online playing Elite at one time and 40+ in our group.

dMw became a faction within the game and then was deserted by the members for various reasons this topic is not discussing.

As the folks tasked with championing this game, ArithonUK, SneakyTiger and I are putting a call out to all players to come out and support dMw to take back control of Guest City, our faction home base.

This is better done in groups, not just for rep points but because it's fun and far safer now Elite has been made more hardcore.

So how about it? Fancy trying this game again and completing a dMw community goal? TS is the place to go.

This will be the first of a season of ideas and gatherings we will be organizing to regenerate interest in the game. I think you'll like what you see now with the latest updates!

Cheers,

Albert

Hi matey, This question is one that comes up time and time again.
Joystick or Hotas combo preferences come largely down to how much are you prepared to spend. There are perfectly good options from el cheapo to el ridiculous on Amazon so I suggest deciding on your budget.
I can make a few suggestions from the budget figure.

Thing is, the market for Joysticks extends from cheap but solid and simple, which some people like, to go for expensive but feature packed, macro enabled, looks bling. Or Pro that is all metal and should have all the best bits of the earlier options I just mentioned.

I play Elite, FSX and SC so I bought a the CH Products Flighterstick Pro, Pro Throttle and Pedals. It's not bling, it looks frankly dull and boring but it's as reliable as they come without going to the Pro level (ignore the Pro in the name).

https://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-200-571-Fighterstick-USB/dp/B00006B84X
https://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-Pedals-Simulator-300-111/dp/B0000512IE/ref=pd_bxgy_147_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=G37D6BSHXE3A4TEPFZJP
https://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-Pro-Throttle-USB/dp/B00006B84Z/ref=pd_bxgy_147_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=G37D6BSHXE3A4TEPFZJP

$370 US and yes I got them from the US because they are not easy to source here and are much more expensive. I got bored with the pedals, because it makes playing a bit of a workout.

So $250 for the stick and throttle.

Nobody else in dMw uses this, it's not pretty enough for everyones taste but I am sure in 5 years time this will be still going strong.

SC have a Saitek solution in development but Saitek are in a bit of financial bother so that might not come out so quickly. They actually launched a new Hotas recently, X56, not really focusing on the SC thing. But there are good reviews for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4urwK7iGhs is a Saitek martketing guy
This guy does an in detpth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRnoc9a72hw - really worth at least listening to the conclusions. He's critical but is fair. Interesting he mentioned CH for reliability.

I personally would look at a few things:

How many out of your top 10 games do you currently (like today) play with a joystick?
Are you someone who likes to buy the best, the best value to quality, or the cheapest?

Many people have the X52 and X55 Saitek sticks, I graduated from the X45 which lasted me 10-15 years (Smilo owns it now) so we got lucky with that one, but Saitek are hit and miss with sticks, Ranaulf 5 times had to replace his X55 (their second to top model !) BroTob has one of these and finds it great.

You're typical brands are Saitek, Thrustmaster, CH, decide how important this hardware is to your gaming, buy at the level of importance.

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

I use that setup too. I also have a CH yoke for Flight simming. I think CH makes solid but ugly stuff, and it is very expensive. But If someone would give me a new controller set for free, I would still chose the CH.

For a budget joystic I would go for a Thrustmaster T16000m

I'll make my way back to Guest City, Galatoni and I started a fresh save to try get into Elite, so it might take me a few :D
Love is the one thing that transcends time and space.

I'll make my way over to Guest City after work as well, and do some trading whilst others join in. I'm currently on a constant high playing the game with the Oculus Rift, it's a totally amazing experience, looping and going flight assist off, avoiding asteroids, and even landing is a rush. Not for the faint hearted.

ArithonUK

I plan to be on this evening from 7pm. My "padawan learner" Awesome_Gamer lost his DropShip to the tune of 1.9M cr rebuy on Friday, so needs to make up funds, so I am taking him bounty hunting.

If anyone wishes to join us, we'll be departing for TZ Arietis. I'll go over the basics of combat and ship load-outs for anyone who hasn't tried a bit of pew-pew before.

If you haven't joined the DEADMENWALKING private group, ping me in game and I will get you a friend request so you can auto-join the group or just send a group-join request and I will get you added.

See you in the void commanders!

I found this nice eBook for learning the ropes:

Link to PDF in the notes section of the page.

It's by Kornelius Briedis: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_8QbBLzUa9ceFNvEAuO7iw Who's very first video I recall watching where he apologized for his voice and lack of good English, when in reality his voice is very good for this type of thing. He's done a video for almost everything Elite +111111.

He also covers Star Citizen, I haven't watched any of that content but if it's as good as Elite, it shouldn't disappoint.
