Javelin? Or not to Javelin?

Liberator

I have a feeling most of our smaller ships are going to be sat in mothballs while we play in yours.

Blimey, we're gonna need to have our own planet soon to park the fleet.

Justin Tolerable

Well I've not decided yet, it's a pending order in my account...

Obsydian

Well, while I tempted to egg you on to press the Buy button, I feel duty bound to say that from what I've heard, it's going to cost an absolute fortune just to get a Javelin operational as they come without any turrets or guns or weapons of any kind, and that would probably bankrupt us as an org.

That said, it would give us something to focus on and a real reason to mine, scavenge, explore and salvage...

That's actually the main reason why I want one. I have si many other ships that I've kind of screwed myself out of a game to play. There's not very much for me to work towards.

The idea of us all having some huge destroyer to refit together is extremely appealing.

I think I will. If I can sell my spare polaris, plus my reclaimer and hull c, it won't be that bad.

I love the idea of the teamwork that is involved to work this ship with each person maning a station. It is an expensive ship and a lot of work will be required to use this to full effectiveness but I am more then happy to be on board and help in any way I can

smilodon

I think you need to go with your gut instincts.

Personally I have acquired a small collection of ships that will get me going when the PU starts. Everything else is there to work towards and is one of the key activities I plan on doing in game - getting more ships. Starting Star Citizen with a huge fleet isn't something I would want to do as it would remove one of the things I'm looking forward to most. But that's just me. There are some people who plan on starting with just an Aurora and getting from there to a Javelin or Orion etc. all in game. they would look at me being over resourced with just my five Drake ships.

But there are plenty of people who want to support the game development more and hit the ground running with a big fleet of ships. Each to their own IMHO. If you want to own a Javelin more than you want to grind for it then buy it I'd say.

:D

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Well, I was up and down a lot with this one, but eventually saw sense and cancelled it. We have two Idris in this org. We don't need a javelin! It will never get flown ;)

RogueTaylor

Smart choice haha unless everyone in this group with star citizen got in the javelin it would be quiet useless sadly and like you said we got two idris so that will still need a good amount of people to fly and use it to its full potential while other pilots can fly there own ships eg for defence purposes. No matter what we will make the best out of the ships we all have I am sure of it. I for one am always happy to help in any ship as needed. Also Justin I think your wallet will thank you for not buying that crazy ship, something better might come out in the future where you want to melt down those ships you were on about getting rid of for something more your style.

TeaLeaf

I think you made the right choice JT.   They're attractive, but the running costs and limited way in which they could be used makes them unappealing in my view.   If you're a career 'massive org' person intending to move as part of a flotilla and be online 15 hours per day then you might conclude otherwise!

I concur with the other - having a Javelin would be nice for bragging rights, etc., but I think we'd need to be several times our size in regular commited manpower in order to make one 'work'.  Also, aren't Javelins one of the ships that are persistent?  If so, then I think the only way to 'store' one is to have it docked in a safehaven, which no doubt will cost a lot in mooring fees alone!

Justin Tolerable

It was mostly to satisfy my collector's itch, to be honest.  That and it would have been fun to have something to work towards.  However, I think crewing even one of our two Idris or three Polaris will be a challenge enough.  Besides, we all have our own ships we want to fly too.  Weirdly enough, I also didn't want to make my Idris 'second best' - I love that ship!

I feel good about the decision :D

Been out of the loop for a few week. Trying to catch up to find that the anniversary sale is upon us....

I think you're right. Even if we did manage to get the crew together to get the 'big guns' crewed. I think i'd rather have 2/3 of the larger ships crewed to one Javelin.
