I read this article and realised it could have significant impact ofn quality of life in persisting your controller or joystick settings:

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/8vov9k/controllers_are_now_bound_by_hardware_id_thank/

Basically it means any controller, be it a mouse, joypad, stick, wheel, pedals etc. are now bound to a unique hardware ID rather than the windows device which changes and messes up regularly.

So those who want to fly with an XBox controller or joystick but aim with a mouse in battle, in other words gimbal with the mouse, this should now work.

It should also mean you can back the XML files of your controller mappings and they should persist through future updates, although that doesn't mean there will be a lot more mapping added or removed that still break this, it's a major step forward.

Thanks for publicising this!

Yes, this little change kind of snuck in under the covers, so to speak, and should end the woes of a lot of people - especially those running Windows 10 where it was spectacularly broken.

For those of you using two 1600M joysticks, it should allow the use of the Target software to define keybinds and sensitivity curves, which should ease the pain of future updates.

Ooo, that makes a major difference.  Thanks Albert, had not noticed this.
