So I bought Escape from Tarkov after watching many a youtuber and streamer play the game. Little did I know that the game (whilst still being in beta) is practically unplayable.

I had expected that with the new rise in popularity the game would be slow, however out of the 24hrs I have owned the game and roughly about 8-9 hours I have played of it (Basically have played very little else in the meantime) I have spent over 6 of those 8-9 hours in lobby screens just waiting to join a game.

On the Tarkov forums this seems to be a Major issue that many players are having, and according to the devs they have the matching times as their highest priority. However according to some of the veteran players of the game this has been a top priority for over 6 months now with no change...

I would really love to see them fix the game because the actual mechanics and gameplay are fantastic and the intense nature of the game really gives you a great rush but right now I cannot reccommend buying Tarkov for anywhere near the price the lowest bundle is offering. It is simply unplayable atm.

So I found a fix for myself and a bug with my launcher which a dev had contacted me to talk through it with him....

"So after having a terrible start to gaming on Tarkov (what with having to wait nearly an hour just to get into game)(Fig.1) I went digging around the launcher and some of the crash reports that I have had and I think I found something.

So on my trials through my files I noticed that I seemed to be only connecting to one server, London (UK), even though I had selected multiple servers on start up to connect too. Thats when I went into my server settings via the launcher (Fig. 2) and noticed that my *use Automatic Server Selection* was ticked on (Fig. 3). I thought that was strange since I didnt even remember there being an option to select that in the opening set up. I immiediately turned off my automatic server selection and re-selected all the servers that I originally selected (Fig. 4) and entered the game. I jumped into a game and sure enough I found that I was in a game with Scav in less than 7 mins. Once I had finished my game I shut down the game and re-launched to check if the servers were still okay and sure enough my launhcer had specified one server, London (UK) (Fig. 5). I changed it back to my requirements and the game seems to be allowing me to enter games at a much quicker pace.

So in essence I implore everyone to check their server settings before leaving the launcher just to make sure that your server isnt being locked to one server to choose from.
" - From my forum post on the Tarkov Forums,

If this bug gets fixed then I definitely reccommend the game, But only time will tell tbh...

Early Access is many things to many people. Some games are all but finished and some should never see the light of day so early.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

My brother and I have been playing this for over a year. Recently we stopped because we were rinsing and repeating too much. We never saw the launcher issue at all.

I will say it is an awesome but nerve racking game with serious consequences if you mess up. Basically you lose your gear, period. It's been performing great and looking awesome from the moment I bought it and it's for sure one of the best EA and Beta's I've played. Shame they are having the geo connectivity issues.

The gun models and how you interact with them are some of the most innovative of any FPS in over a decade.
Cheers, Bert
