Hi all, I could do with some suggestions on a Monitor.

I'm changing the spare bedroom into a games room. It currently has a sofa bed, 50" 4K TV, PS4 & XBox and my folding Racing Chair.
The problem is it was first set-up for the kids but I've now taken over and the racing chair no longer gets folded up and put away.
So it's now getting a re-design so we can all be in there at the same time.

The plan is to buy a better Sim Rig, New PC and Monitor. The Sim rig will be under a desk at one end and an office chair next to it for normal gaming, moving the monitor between both.
The Monitor needs to be big enough that I can easily see to race from around 2 Meters away, but not too big that when I move closer to play keyboard games like WOW or CS.

Do I go for something like a 32" Curved or is that too big?

The curved ultrawides are fine for 'up close' gaming. I game on a 35" 21:9 (3440x1440) panel, which is fine for normal office / gaming use. Many in the community use similar panels.

What I don't know is how satisfying it will be to race on from 2 meters away... that is quite a distance, you may find even a panel of this size looks puny from so far away.

If you're able to tweak the viewing distance of the racing setup, then likely you can make it work. If it has to be 2m... you may regret the move away from the 50" TV.

I've done some measuring and 2 meter's was a poor guess. it's closer to 1 meter.
If I put the monitor on a swivel arm I could move it even closer to the steering wheel.

One issue I've just considered is how the Playstation or XBox image will look. From some Google searches it looks like the image stretches.
I could live with a couple of bars either side in 16:9 instead of it stretched.
Not yet sure how the PS5 will deal with 21:9.

Does anyone else on here use their Ultrawide on console?

Chaosphere, what Monitor do you use?

LOL, this is making my head spin and as usual my max spend of £500 is all of sudden up at £750 with the Alienware 34".

Do I really need 120Hz, 2ms, G-Sync. Could I get away with 100Hz, 8MS and save £200+ or even 60Hz and save more.

What is the best manufacturer at the minute? For the last 4 monitors I've gone Dell but Samsung and LG appear to be leading as I see it.

Been looking at these damn things all last night and this morning and finally decided on the Asus Tuf VG35VQ. From what I've been reading, I can't find a better monitor (based on spec) without spending another £400+.
I would have bought the Asus ROG Strix XG35VQ but couldn't find anyone selling them.

Sorry, I haven't had time to write a proper reply, work has been manic. You'd think we were in the middle of some sort of pandemic. :norty:

I likely would have suggested that monitor anyway, I think it is plenty of spec for most people and mixed gaming.

Enjoy!

Not a problem Ben, understand you must be shattered at the moment. Thanks for the reply.
So out of the loop on Monitors that extensive trawling of websites and Youtube was needed.
At least I have an idea of the PC spec I'm building in the new year, so won't need to bother anyone :lmfao:
