Barbeque (Braai) time! Get in here and share!

Hello all my fellow pyromaniacs!

I am finally going to make my first purchase of a BBQ (a braai) in the UK and it just occurred to me that I've long got by in SA with only a hand made drum type braai, or someone else's brick braai.
I'm sure there are plenty of deadMen (possibly some other genders) who have purchased BBQ's in the past and can share some tips on purchases or really reliable / fun BBQ's

I am determined to stick to my roots and exclusively purchase a wood/charcoal type, so please recommend away, at first glance I like the shape of this little number and this is probably where my budget reaches its apex too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! otherwise just share what you like, I know at least a few members have got smokers etc.

I went with weber kettle and you have seen how much I love it mate. Also do some serious looking as I have found prices can change across the board. Along with good fuel too deffo is worth shopping around. At one point I found it cheaper to get some stuff from John Lewis of all places !!!

Yeah units with a quick clean or removable ash catcher is something to really consider!

You can tell people are itching to get out and have a summer!

I've heard good things about both the Landmann grills and the Weber kettles. Either would be good, but I like the Landmann adjustable charcoal height & cleaning more! Currently lusting after a pellet smoker, for some unknown reason this little bit of sunshine we have right now is making us all think of BBQs :roflmao:

Last time I was researching BBQs I went hunting for a more affordable "Kamado" than the (not cheap) big green egg. I have lost the links but I _think_ the one I very nearly bought (before getting one that does not meet your criteria) was at the time made in the uk ... https://www.quintakamado.co.uk/ ... an interesting option, though I think it was around 300-350 when I was looking ... and anyway some of the best braais I've used were little more than a pile of bricks and some steel mesh :flirty:

I am totally guilty of this, the golden sun rise this morning and the golden sunset this evening has awoken in me the most primal of urges, FIRE.
The adjsutable height of the charcoal is exactly the feature of the one I link which is SO similar to the Landmann, just larger.

The principle of the kamado style bbqs still appeal to my inner scientist-chef, and I've been served some amazing meals made in a BigGreenEgg ... but my financial advisor was not so keen, and my "garden" is tiny and up two flights of stairs so in the end lazy-logic won for my decision and I got a bbq that does not require me to carry any fuel through the house up the stairs. Some of the BBQ posted above will probably achieve much of what you'd manage with a Kamado anyway...

Yeah the little brick braai is very close to my heart, and I actually built an impromptu one last year using old fireplace housing bricks, the only thing that it failed in was being even just slightly mobile, I would have to pick a place for the braai, which for me right now isn't ideal, much appreciated the link though, I didn't realise small quantities of brick were available like this, I thought it was strictly by the tonne or as hand me downs lol :roflmao:

Edit.... I clearly did not read this part "Please note that bricks are not included." :doh:

Builders' merchants will sell bricks individually, don't have to buy a pallet full. I've built one at every house I've lived in, never cost me more than Â£100 all in including a grills etc

My Dad has had one of these for almost 20 years, cleans it and oils the wood every year - mobile and can comfortably cook for a family of 6 on it

I hate to BBQ, I have a kitchen that does a great job for cooking food and I don't have to scrape crap from the grill every time I use it or move all the stuff out to the patio and try and stop wasps or seagulls getting to it. Or my beer getting warm whilst I cook.

I can just about handle this a few times a year when my wife's pining for charred meat becomes too extreme to handle.
