Didn't know where else to put this. Is it possible to do away with the "So and so has edited this message" addition in posts? I feel it can give the wrong impression sometimes. For example, is it edited for a simple spelling/grammatical mistake or has the writer thought better of saying something controversial? Anyway, a thought.

Not sure if you're referring to the one I edited yesterday?  I usually dont bother so no 'edited by' note is shown.  The one yesterday was an impossible series of incorrectly written hyperlinks and I simply tidied the coding up to make the post readable.  Subsequently I see that Peppster decided to re-edit his own post and it now makes much less sense than it did originally   I think the purpose of the note ti to show that it is not the original post that members are reading.  It might have changed content in a material way and that's the forum's way of flaggin up that possibility.  Edits within a short time of the original post do not show the 'edited by' line.

I sometimes put a postscript "edited for spelling" on some of my really long boring posts if necessary. This would appear just above the 'edited code' you're refering to. It makes sure that you poor souls don't have the torture of re-reading them agian on the off chance you missed a gem. You could do that if you liked?

I wasn't refering to any particular post, merely the message in general.

What's a short time? /slips into test mode.

Gave it a few seconds, now let's see, I'll just press this button and.........

I often throw a complete tantrum and almost post something that could ultimately lead to prosecution so end up editing it. If everyone just assumes we all do the same in an edited post there will be no issue, ok paranoia, uncertainly, conspiracy theory, possible suicides, perhaps sleepless nights pondering that could possibly have been edited, a simple spelling error and something more sinister.

Can I delete this topic :D

[Edited for the hell of it]

[And again]
Cheers, Bert

It was only a question.

Although it is a lot more fun editing other peoples posts. Ghostmjr's a clear, lucid, well written and inciteful before I get my hands on them
