Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but does anyone have a guest pass that came with their copy of Diablo 3 that they could give me?  I'd like to try the starter edition but need one of these keys to unlock it, as it doesn't look like a demo is coming any time soon.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help out.

Android & Chrome Devices / Android Tablet - Movie advice
September 15, 2011, 11:53:50 AM
Quote from: TeaLeaf;332921I am just transferring media from my NAS to the tablet for watching, I've not looked into a rental service or something of that sort.  How you get the movie onto the tablet depends on the tablet and what connects to it, for me (Motorola Xoom) I simply browsed to my NAS and copied the movies across to the tablet over my WiFi.

I've been using ES File Explorer (free app from the Android Market) to connect to my network machines/drives etc.

Cheers TL - I don't use a media server at home, just keep my files on an external drive.  I guess I can just hook the tablet into my pc or external drive and drag and drop (it's what I do for my HTC Desire)?  Still doesn't get around the format shifting hassle but it'll do.

Android & Chrome Devices / Android Tablet - Movie advice
September 15, 2011, 11:41:44 AM
Hi folks - am seriously considering purchasing an Android Tablet for watching films and tv series on when I travel to kill the time.  However, unlike ipad with itunes movie rental/purchase, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent service on Android where I can easily and legally rent/buy media for playing on a tablet.  Google doesn't have a service like itunes yet does it?

Any advice or tips?  My only real thought so far is to format shift physical media I own so that I can transfer it onto a tablet, but that's a laborious task.

Technology Section / PCI question
March 12, 2011, 06:47:28 PM
I have an  NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Motherboard running an Nvidia 8800 GTX - I think I have read that modern PCI ports are backwards and forwards compatible so there should be no problem if I upgrade to something like an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560?

I was looking at getting this but don't want to blow the cash if I have to upgrade the motherboard as well:

Thanks for any advice you can provide folks,

I read this too Benny, and can't recommend it highly enough - blasted through it in a couple of days because I just couldn't put it down.  The things these guys do on this U-boat and the danger they put themselves in just takes your breath away.  Fantastic story.

Finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade from XP to W7 - I have 4gb in my machine currently (not fully utilised by XP 32bit).  Is it worth upgrading to W7 64 bit?  I did the compatability checker and my hardware is no problem, but I get a little worried about software, especially the more obscure stuff like MAME emulators and other little things I play around with.  What are people's experience with 64 bit?  Any probs that may put me off?

Also, thinking of investing in an unlocked Nexus One or a HTC Desire.  Do they both run flash on their browsers?  Anyone got a particular preference for the Nexus One over the Desire or vice versa?

Cheers for any help y'all :)

Quote from: Tutonic;303362Sorry, but I'm not buying the "oh it's ok because they're using Beta code" excuse.

This was released as a demo, as in 'demonstration of the full game'.

And they messed up, big time.

Surely AvP will be sold in any quantity on the basis of its single player experience, rather than multiplayer?  Not sure why you're getting so hung up on this tbh.

So the netcode is pretty poorly implemented initially - there are plenty of fantastic games that sucked in the first 48 hours of being available.  My first frustrating weekend on WoW springs to mind, but people don't remember that now because the game is so polished in it's current state... not saying AvP will be anywhere near that, but beta testing is all of our jobs now since broadband and post-release patches came along :)  Why pay a tester when you can set up a feedback forum and get the public to do it for free :)

Saw it on Friday night in 3D at the London IMAX.  Visually stunning, and utterly unlike anything you may have seen before.

The plot is basically Dances with Wolves in space, as mentioned here already, but that is in no way a bad thing.

Staggering - just don't leave it so long next time, please Jim.

Really looking forward to it, as James Cameron can do little wrong in my eyes.

However, looking at the trailer, no matter how sexy the CGI on a film like this, I can never suspend my disbelief over the CGI characters.  They always look CGI, no matter how realistic.  Worries me a little, as I was hoping for something spectacular, now I just worry that it'll be Jar Jar Binks all over again.

Quote from: suicidal_monkey;286457strangely enough Vista has been chugging away quite happily for me for some time so I'll be sticking with that until some game I want requires me to upgrade :)

Precisely the same reason for why I will wait until I upgrade to W7 from XP.  Even if hardware comes out this year, no great glut of games are genuinely going to need or take advantage of DX11 until late 2010.

My only other alternative is to ply Smilodon with beer and pizza until he agrees to provide his services for helping me upgrade.  He seems to destroy his computer every six months or so, so has plenty of experience on what not to do  :)

Cheers, thanks for the advice.

Balls to it, XP does everything I need, developers need their heads read if they don't make games compatible with XP given the install base, DX11 hardly seems a compelling reason to upgrade given the lack of hardware, and all the other fancy bits n pieces are just window dressing.

I'll pick it up in 2011 when W7 SP2 comes out :)

I know this may be a pretty dumb question but I've never actually "upgraded" an OS on my PC, I've just replaced my pc boxes over time and it's come with the newer OS (95 > 98 > XP).

I'm using XP 32 bit now, and if I buy W7 am I going to have to do a full hard disk wipe and then install W7?  Or is there an upgrade path using the W7 CD that I can use without having to wipe my HDD?

I just don't think I can be assed to reinstall everything on this pc and any extra hassle kills my motivation for upgrading to a new OS that really doesn't seem to give me much that XP doesn't...

Quick query - I have F3 and Broken Steel DLC and I intend on playing it all the way through to level 30. But when I hit the level cap will I not be able to play The Pitt or Anchorage because they are geared for level 20?  Or will the game somehow drop my level back to 20 for these first two DLCs?

Please, please, please put up a version of Tie Fighter that works on XP :dribble:
