Seriously though ... / Re: RIP Blunt
July 18, 2024, 10:21:15 PM
My condolences Tox - to you and the rest of the family.

I remember meeting Blunt and NVG when they picked this monkey up from the side of Whiteladies road in Bristol and ferried me to March for my first dMw lan (I think their first but my brain is getting older!). Three of us plus bags, big desktop cases and four massive CRT monitors did a good job of filling the hatchback: a cramped but fun journey with such excellent company, and many more lan meetups since. All round great person, very glad I met him. He is missed already.

Raised a glass or two tonight 🍺 cheers Pete!

Technology Section / Silent mouse and keyboard
October 19, 2022, 09:16:15 AM
heh - my clicky keyboard was banned at home - got a microsoft sculpt as I work from the same desk and (I find that) it's good and it's quiet. It isn't gaming orientated, isn't mechanical and it is wireless (I can't remember the last time I changed the batteries)

For the mouse I picked a "Corsair Dark Core RGB PRO" as it can be wired or wireless, has finger & thumb rests and is recommended for larger hands (I used to use an mx510, which I think is similar to the 518) although I would like it if it were wider/bigger ... I've yet to find a mouse that actually sits in my hand nicely though so ymmv! :)

Thanks for organising another great lan and thanks to all for turning up and creating the atmosphere (...even if it became rather a stinky atmosphere after all the beer, curry, kebabs and whatever else people were ingesting!)

Quote from: albert;448940Thanks guys, awesome as always. Happy to be taking over half a stone of Blighty back with me to NL.
Sounds like the fossil shop was very popular as usual :flirty:

Quote from: Chaosphere;448842Miriana has rented a car for the weekend ... cost less than £100
Where, what, who, how?! I've not seen rental prices that low since early 2020 ... and I (thought I had) searched quite thoroughly

NB for getting back into London on Sunday the current status is that trains are running ... which is my current likely plan (Pen's offer of a lift to Cambridge gives you more options of trains from there direct to London)

heads up: there seems to be a train strike planned on Wed the 5th, so services will be bad (sometimes non-existent) that day, with probably still a bit of a mess overflowing into the 6th...

Quote from: Chaosphere;448793when we rent we take out separate rental insurance for the car that is normally cheap as chips. We do this through a separate company, NOT the rental company.
:withstupid:
Definitely a good idea: car-hire-excess insurance policies :D I have one that covers excess on hire cars in UK and Europe that cost £40 for the year

Quote from: suicidal_monkey;448673Is anyone travelling up from/via London with some space I could occupy?
I'm based in N1/Islington and I can get to somewhere to link up.
timing should be relatively flexible.
NB happy to pay for the pleasure :flirty: ... of not having to take a train! Can be in beers or cash (trains start from something like £25 each way)
