if your ping is going very high and u r lagging very bad this maybe why...

bring up steam click on moniter, now u could be downloading other HL mods tho steam and this is why u r lagging to stop this...

bring up games in stram right click on all the game (bar HL & CS) right click propreties "Do not  automatically update game"

this will stop downloads in CS

I got steam working the other day and tbh i was impressed alot better than i thought it was shame about it being down all the time...

In case you are wondering why you cannot log into Steam, it is because the Steam Network is down. Greg Coomer at VALVe has posted a news article about this:
The Steam network is down right now. We're working on a fix and should have everything working again shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I will update this post when the Steam Network is back online.


if your steam still doesnt work when its up i would suggest u should go to search type steam delete all steam win files, ten reinstall steam but change the name of the folder "steam1" for example

[steam is most definately UP right now with more that 50% of it's capacity available. Are you having firewall issues maybe?]

i disabled nortan and tryed still got the same message :/

OK, if you're having trouble getting Steam to work, this should help:
This file includes the full cache of data required to run Half-Life v1.1.2.0 and Counter-Strike v1.6 in the Steam client. You do not need this file if you have successfully downloaded this data from the official version of Steam.

In other words, if you can't get Steam to work or it's just really slow to update, get this and you won't need to download the nearly 400MB of updated Counter-Strike and Half-Life files through Steam.

when i join a server online my ping shoots to 300 and its really laggy (im on isdn remember)

any ideas why its laggy or is it my connection

i hope the full release isnt as laggy :/

i got steam downloaded 1.6 on my isdn.

went to play cs it comes up but i can still see my taskbar and i do a crtl alt delete and it says counter stike is not responding

any idea guys?
