hey all,

for those who missed it in /g last night just wanted to let people know i have moved on to pastures new. i have been pugging with Mea Culpa the past couple of weeks and they raid casually enough for me to get some spots with mt PITA work hours so i'm off to play with those guys.

wanted to make post to say thanks to everyone in DMR for my time here. not encountered a single bad egg amongst all of you and met some real good players to boot too!

thanks to everyone who helped me out with Pally advice when i was getting to grips with my new toon, and a big thanks to Sheep and the other officers for doing a great job.

i wish you all the best of luck and feel free to give me a shout if you need some heals / dps in the future.

Healing / How to use & configure the Grid & Clique addons
September 17, 2009, 09:57:07 PM
another quick question (sorry):

i set the frame editor as you suggested (as i was sick of having to Alt+Right Click to get a menu on a Unit Frame) but now when i Right Click on any Unit Frame I get the PitBull menu! seems a few people had this and the suggestion seemed to be to delete a line from the pitbull lua file - but there must be an easier way, right?

Healing / How to use & configure the Grid & Clique addons
September 17, 2009, 03:37:20 PM
hey TL - nice post, just wish it was a few days sooner as i made the switch to Grid / Clique at the weekend and it took me a while to set it up. did find a couple of nice guides on the internet which i'll link here when i remember where they were...

couple of questions / comments:

1 - i previously used healbot which was fine for all intents and purposes (insert QQ about healbot) but wanted to get more out of the addon so made the jump. even with quickhealth installed i still find that HB updated HP quicker. is there any way to improve on this?

2 - HB also had a neat timer on all my healing buffs (Beacon, Sacred Shield, FoL HOT) so i knew when they were about to drop off and i could re-apply efficiently. in Grid, it only classifies Beacon as a HOT hence this is the only one i can apply the timer on. this leaves my options as either waiting for the buff to drop off and then re-applying (leaving a period of time when the target is not buffed / HoT'd) or guessing when it is about to drop and re-applying (inefficient use of mana).

anyone know how to classify buff's as HoT's or be able to set a timer for when they are about to drop off?

sweet - thanks for the invite, nice stack of badges there! rather impressed by my healing also - first time healing in a full 25-man instance - still a long way to catch up to the pesky druids and shammy though :p

World of Warcraft - Dead Men Raiding / Tanking

Quote from: Carr0t;286224I thought since the changes Blizz brought in to 3.2 (increased dodge rating needed per % of dodge by 15%, dropped parry rating needed per % of parry by 8%) dodge and parry were roughly equal now in terms of what you wanted to stack.

yup - correct. which is why i stated percentages below rather than rating numbers.

Quote from: Carr0t;286224Also, given that I was rolling (as a pally tank) on the same gear as warrior tanks, I think it's safe to say that my def actually *dropped* significantly when I got better gear. Starting lvl 80 crafted blues and a few purples seemed to be stacked with def up the yingyang, and I was capped easily, but as I got drops from Heroics and Naxx my def actually went down, and I found myself having to use all my gems and enchants just to cap it out again. It's onyl now i've started to get Ulduar / Emblem of Valor epics that i've found it creeping back up again and allowing me to swap out some gems for whatever I find necessary.

sure - if you've min/max'd your gear for +def then you're going to lose out when you pick up a more balanced item of loot. which is a PITA when trying to swap in upgrades but you will eventually reach a point when you have a balanced set with no massive +def bonus items in there and you're free to start swapping in items to manipulate other stats.

as a rule of thumb, warriors want to aim for 20% in dodge, parry, and block, and then just start stacking Defence (if avoidance is needed) or Sta/Arm/Block if EH is needed. you'll hit the avoidance figures naturally as you get better gear.

expertise should ALWAYS be prio'd over hit (at least for warriors):

32.79 Hit rating = 1% Hit
32.79 Expertise Rating = 4 Expertise Skill = 1% Dodge reduction & 1% Parry reduction

this continues until you reach the 'soft exp cap' (where you push dodge off the table) of 26 expertise skill. you then get the same returns on hit and expertise up until the parry cap of 64.

few comments from an old tank:

HP and Def seem fine for heroics. Avoidance is slightly low so I would consider shifting some enchants / gems from +def to +parry / +dodge as and when you swap out gear which bumps your def up.

get that Sons of Hodir rep up and slap on the Sholds ench ;-)

if you're focussing on heroics / 10-mans then you could tweak your talent spec slightly also:

Go Deep Wounds spec. You will see a massive increase in your damage (and hence threat) output.

Revenge is pretty much awesome for prot warriors and is your second highest damage ability (behind SS) so you want to get as much out of this as possible.

I would drop the SA glyph and change for the Revenge one. Free HS's every Revenge is pretty awesome.

Drop puncture. Even with the Dev buff in 3.2, the points are better spent elsewhere.

I would also drop 5/5 Cruelty. If you're going to keep any points in Arms then ATTT should be first due to scalability. If you have points left then pop then in Cruelty but prio other things (especially deep wounds) over this.

Imp Revenge is nice for the DPS boost.

If you're lacking threat then think about getting Vigi. Slapping this on the trigger happy mage during a fight can be awesome. This is a must for encounters such as Malygos.

There is a lot of good info on sites like Tankspot.com and tankingtips.com so check them out.

>> Who are you? Where are you from? How old are you? What kind of work do you do? What's your situation at home like?

hi, i'm john aka deadwrong aka krapenhausen. 33 yo guy from the north of the uk. work as an ops manager for a managed hosting provider looking after staff and data centres. kinda geeky but i like it. everything's good outside of work and wow, live by myself and involved with a girl who lives in dusseldorf who i see every couple of weekends.

>> What kind of internet connection do you have?

8Mb/s broadband from Sky. been pretty reliable as far as uptime is concerned.

>> What are the core specs of your computer?

it's an off the shelf Dell Dimension E520, 3GB RAM, 2.8Ghz Pentium D, with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS OC. never really have any FPS / slowdown issues within WoW.

>> How long have you been playing computer ames and what kind?

been playing computer games since i was introduced to Manic Miner on the Spectrum. WoW is the first MMORPG i played and the one i have stuck with. also got a 360 for some more mindless action.

>> What kind of raiding experience do you have?

Vanilla i got to see up to Vael in BWL with my guild of the time Infuse. i joined Genesis part way through TBC and raided with them all the way up to SWP. MT'd pretty much everything up to Brutallus.

stopped raiding due to things at work getting pretty hectic but was convinced to come back for WoTLK where i tanked on Deadwrong through all the initial content. after farming the same bosses for a few weeks i took a break again, party for the same reason and partly due to not being 100% happy with the changes (mainly the prot warrior mechanics but some other stuff too) in WotLK.

>> What other guilds have you been in and wh.y did you decide or were forced to move on?

Genesis was my main guild with my old toon Deadwrong. my new main - Krapenhausen - has always been unguilded.

>> Do you actively play any alts that we could find you in in case we need to contact you?

DW is the only other toon i play and that is usually just for dailies

>> If you are a cross-server applicant, name someone from your home server that can vouch for you.

n/a

>>What are your plans for the game? In what way would you like others to know you? Tell us about your personality, and why you enjoy the game.
Name one thing you don't like about WoW in its current state.

i decided to start playing again about a month ago and wanted a fresh start so rolled a Paladin. i played as ret up until 70 and then dual-specced for holy also. really enjoying healing so have made this my main spec with ret still there for grinding and questing.

i'm still busy with work so playing fairly casually but my appetite for the game is growing again... i'm a fairly laid back guy who enjoys a beer and a good laugh over TS / Vent. wiped enough in my time to see the funny side in them. i do think that blizz have taken the 'welfare epics' thing to the extreme. i dinged 80 last week and already at 1800 healing, 18.5k mana, and 25.5% crit which just seems a bit silly.

Your character

>> Please link to your armory profile.

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Aszune&n=Krapenhausen

>> Why did you decide to play this class?

wanted a change from tanking and have done some dps before so a healer was the obvious choice. i like plate cause it means i am not squishy!

>> What do you think your class' role is in raid content?

holy spec pala's seem to be strongest on single target healing although a well placed beacon can be nice to spread some healing around the group whilst also focussing on a single target. we've also got some nice CD's to blow such as Lay on Hands, DI, and Hand of Sac which can help in sticky situations. there's also the obvious buffing / cleansing spells which we bring along too.

>> Comment on your build. Why did you choose it? What do you think of other builds of your class? Why didn't you choose one of those? (important question)

cookie cutter Holy spec to be honest. got the 18 points in ret for the increased crit rate to make mana more efficient through illumination.

This guild

>> What do you look for in a guild?

good people who have a nice team spirit and know how to play. people who are willing to teach and learn alike and accept others mistakes in a constructive manner.

>> ''Dead Men Raiding'' - What comes to mind when you see that guild name? There are other guilds on the server, why did you apply to us?

i see DMR as a well established guild on the server who are part of a wider gaming community. my knowledge of some of the people involved in the guild lead me to believe that you are a bunch of decent guys / gals who are progressing well with raiding whilst also maintaining a good guild environment for people to 'hang out' in.

i was tempted to stay unguilded but in all honesty i miss the friendly banter and good times that come with being in a guild with a decent bunch of people.

although my app is primarily a social one i would relish the opportunity to slip into Naxx or even Ulduar with you if you thought i was up to it and there was a spot available.

>> Who do you know in Dead Men Raiding? How do you know them?

i know TL well from my days in Genesis and he also dragged Sheep along to some of our late night booze fueled runs.

>> Have you read our 'what we look for' and 'philosophy' posts? What do you think of them?

yes i have and they are part of the reason i am applying to this guild.

Annoying questions

>> A guildie says something you find offensive, what do you do?

respond appropriately (either to the guildie directly or a superior officer) in the spirit intended.

>> Cake or Pie?

Pie - a pie can be sweet or savory. it's wrong to limit one's choices in life, especially when it comes to food.

anyhow - thanks for reading! hope to hear from you soon.
