CoD4 Help Section / Server Ping
September 28, 2009, 03:18:06 PM
This often happens on some servers. The problem, if any, is entirely server-side from what I can gather (some servers have the "problem", others don't). The best thing to do is to just ignore it.

As for your framerate, it could be any number of reasons. Programs running in the background, being forced to reset the PC after a hard lock-up (this used to happen to me - shutting down and restarting usually fixed it), or it could be overheating. Check the usual suspects (stop virus scans while playing, check for broken fans, etc). If all that turns out fine and your FPS is still lower than normal, maybe try lowering the graphical settings? I don't have a "technical wizardry" degree, but I hope all that helps. ;)

From the looks of things, there are not one, but two new gametypes.

The first one, we likely already know: CTF. The second official MP video was dedicated to it.

The second one, however, has only been leaked through camvideos from a recent press event and shown on GameTrailers (of which there are now quite a lot - in excess of 10 from a quick glance). And this gametype, from the looks of things, is called "Demolition".

Sort of like Sabotage was basically SnD with a more fast-paced twist, Demolition seems to be SnD with a multi-tasking twist. Like in SnD, there are two bombsites but, instead of having a choice as to which one you plant the bomb at, you need to plant bombs at both of them.

The two bombsites can be destroyed independently and the two bombs have independent timers. I'm not entirely sure on the rules behind it, but the round depicted in the video ended when both sites were destroyed by the attacking team and, when one site was destroyed, I'm assuming the time remaining in the round was extended, from the looks of the "Time Extension!" message flashing on-screen.

----

I've also seen a site which, again, through leaks in the form of pictures, show what the new perks (yes, new perks) do. There's even talk of the perks having a challenge attributed to them which, once completed, unlocks an enhanced "Pro" version.

Bling (Slot 1): Allows you to fit two weapon attachments to your primary weapon.

Marathon (Slot 1): Unlimited sprint

Scavenger (Slot 1): Obtain more ammo from discarded weapons.

Lightweight (Slot 2): Faster movement speed

Commando (Slot 3): Larger melee attack range.

Not sure if these will be changed to make the leaks irrelevant, but... it's something to chew on. But, here's a theoretical loadout to get you thinking:

P90 (Silencer)
Marathon
Lightweight
Dead Silence

Granted, no Stopping Power but, with all three perks dedicated to hauling ass (faster movement, near-silent movement, infinite sprint), think of what you could get out of a quick stealthy foray into the other team's spawnpoint... ;)

After watching it again and looking at the ammo counter (20 bullets), I think the gun at the beginning of the video is the FN SCAR-H, (possibly an IAR variant as you said, Tom, seeing as the wiki article says there was one). :)

If you want more MW2 goodness, then look at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4PMRFkx07g

First and foremost: MW2 is getting a CTF gametype. :)

And some other things I spotted:

- On the console versions at least, there will be Street Fighter 4-style name badges, such as "Suppressor", "FNG", "The Specialist", "Boom! Headshot!", as well as avatar pictures.
- Players can use Riot Shields (possible perk?)
- Instead of having to pick up weapons to see attachments, it seems like some are added as suffixes to the weapons ("SCAR-H Bling", "UMP45 Extended Mags")
- There will be some way for some weapons to have larger clips. (see above)
- The TAR-21 will be in the game.
- Killstreaks will have more bonuses than just at three, five and seven kills. We know about the 11-kill bonus (AC-130 from the last video), but this video shows an Airdrop bonus at four kills. But, strangely, the player didn't get a chopper at seven kills. Perhaps the "customisable killstreaks" only allow you to set three bonuses as a replacement for the traditional UAV/Airstrike/Chopper combo?

1. I'll be getting this in November so, if/when you lot get a server, I'll be hopping on to shoot y-.. uh, I mean, have a few games with you with shinier graphics. :)

2. If you haven't checked it out already, take a look at 402's twitter page. He's the Community Manager for Infinity Ward and he's been dripfeeding various bits of MW2-related info. His latest post talks about the next multiplayer preview video coming on Tuesday (1st September). Might be worth checking out if you need your info fix. :)

I would've stayed longer.. but then I realised I'd put a pizza in the oven and didn't want to burn the house down. You know how it is. :)

If I'm on Shipment:

AK74-u (no attachment)
Desert Eagle
3x Spec. Nades
Stopping Power
Deep Impact

Everywhere else (yes, including Killhouse):

AK47 (no attachment)
Desert Eagle
3x Spec. Nades
Stopping Power
Deep Impact

Not much in the way of variety, but it works for me, so I'm sticking with it. If the AK's as good in MW2, then I'll probably go with it there too. xD

Quote from: Blunt;286553what's your steam name, I'll add you to friends.

I've not been on Steam in ages, so this info isn't as accurate as I'd like. Anyways, I'd guess it was chaosorigin, the same as my XFire. :)

Quote from: Blunt;286540Tell me, do you play CSS?:norty:

I've got it. Does that count? Unlike on CoD4, I'm hopeless at CSS. :P
