I can't emphasise enough that it would be far better to learn Object Oriented Design first.

I've worked in the industry now for 19 years and the amount of poorly designed code I see is ridiculous. Poorly designed code leads to difficult to maintain applications at best. Poorly designed code can never be exception safe for starters.

Last round of interviews at my company I was more interested to see if candidates really understand OOD rather than coding.

For starters learn how and when to use inheritance or composition. Learn the difference between the different types of inheritance. Learn when to use composition instead of private inheritance and why. I'm only scratching the surface of the basics here. Those that delve straight into the coding side of c++ rarely if ever make good developers. Harsh but true.

Could someone give me a quick overview of what this game is about and what you do in it. I've read so much about it yet I'm totally confused as to what type of game it is.

Also, which package are people buying. I don't really understand the difference entirely. Is it just the ship you start with? Anywhere you can see the differences in the ships?

To be honest their website is rather poor. Go to the about game page and it doesn't explain the game at all. I was more confused after reading it than before.

This is back to £23.99 for the last 24 hours of the winter sale. I am thinking of getting it but had a few questions as I don't know much about it. I am interested with the little I do know - i.e. slow paced and tactical and multiplayer focused ticks all the right boxes. I'm getting too old for twitchy arcade shooters.

1. Would I enjoy this if I can't get on comms or is it essential. In my house it's quite often the case that I can't use a mic these days as there is too much else going on and I rarely get quiet gaming time. I'm happy to follow orders and stick to teamwork though.

2. Is this more focused on co-op multiplayer or is there (active) competitive modes too?

I'm looking forward to this but it depends on price. I'm totally a living room gamer and mouse and keyboard will just never suit me. Gamepad on PC means I can't play FPS online. So I always end up going back to console. This controller, if it can close the gap between gamepad and M/K for online, would seriously tempt me away from console. For now, I am console, with PC for exclusives but that would change if this contoller turns out to be as good as I hope. I have a beefy PC for working from home so it actually works out as a cheaper option than consoles anyway.

Sorry guys but I won't be joining you on this. The game doesn't work properly with a 360 controller and I don't have any interest in playing games with a mouse and keyboard. It is a known problem for a long time. There is a work around by typing a console command each time you play but as I said in my "hello again" post, if a game doesn't work out of the box, I'm going to ditch it and move on. I have had to do the same with Planetside 2 for the same reason.

No great issue, just slowly trying to get a group of games that work with controller straight away with no hacks, workarounds or anything else.

Bought this last night. I had played the PS3 version briefly which was awful but the PC version is like a completely different (i.e. better) game. I love it and wish I wasn't so late to the party. I nearly joined the server last night but decided I had better work out how to play it first. I am totally rubbish even against bots.

I thought it would be quite rude to start posting on here again after so long without a quick hello again.

After finally accepting that my finances are unlikely to allow me to get a next gen console and being fed up of below HD graphics, I have ordered a new gfx card (funded by selling current gen consoles) and getting back into PC stuff. I got a bit fed up of the constant tinkering with settings etc last time but my philosophy this time is if a game doesn't work nicely on my machine then move onto a game that does. No messing, no stressing.

Sorry about that. Apparently they've disabled it due to the account hacking. They are not giving a date for when it will be reenabled.

TeaLeaf I've had to refund your PayPal payment. I logged into my GW2 account to change the email address but it wouldn't let me. After a bit of Google searching it turns out that an admin on GW forum has said the ability to do this has been disabled. I can't give you the account with my email address so I can't sell it.

This is still available and just to clear up some confusion. It is the digital edition download version from guildwars2.com. It costs £49.99 and I am willing to sell mine for £25 (i.e. half price).

I'm going on holiday Sunday morning for two weeks and haven't packed yet so I'll probably be too busy to sort this out before I go. It will have to wait until I get back now.
