Technology Section / Headsets

Curiosity got the better of me, I had a looksy around a few subreddits. Looks like the CUE software is what causes the issues? Which would explain it as I never used that software even when I had the USB headset. Windows natively picked it up as an audio device and I just ran with standard drives (also wasn't a 7.1 headset, was a 'virtual 5.1'). I also have a Corsair K95, again, without CUE installed, it got wiped out in the last windows update and I never bothered to reinstall it. Seems that'ss where a lot of the issues come from.

The more you know! :)

That surprises me! I had a Corsair Vengeance 1500 headset for years with zero issues. Could it be a nuanced issue? Was it plugged into a USB 3.x port (as I expect it was a USB2.0 device given its age)? Drivers upto date?

Seems daft to write off an entire manufacturer based on one bad experience?

Technology Section / Gigabit fibre

This will only be available where (if I've got my terminology right) Vodafone have Local Loop Unbundling and the physical infrastructure in place to provide the speeds they are quoting. Anything above 100Mbps was once only considered capable if you had FTTP, Fibre to the Premises. I think the 'last mile' analysis changed that, so as long as your within a certain distance of the exchange and the green on your street is fibred up you should be able to get at least the 100Mbps, this is what BT offers (Wholesale and Retail) in the upto 80Mbps packages, FTTC, Fibre to the Cabinet.

There was a huge push (and government grants) to get everyone onto FTTC, there doesn't seem to be the same appetite at least from central government to push that any further. At least that I've seen, which leaves private companies such as Vodafone and others to fill in the gap, the problem is they do it in such a way that's incredibly target and revenue focused, so only in high value areas. Which is pretty useless for the majority of us...

Samknows.com used to be a great resource for this stuff but I don't think the database is maintained anymore (and I'm probably a couple of years out of date on my info too, I got Fibre back around 2012 and I've been fairly content with it since) https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/llu/bulldog

Quote from: DuVeL;434643Not to worry, stick to a name here so people get to know you. Not alot of people play Warframe here. But that French name "the returned"sounds good also... Except it's translated from French... Don't worry, you don't need to surrender straight away... :flirty:. I'll probably catch you on Discord sometime. Greetings a Dutchy...

Haha, don't worry. I agonised long enough over what to change it too, I aint changing it again any time soon, thanks for the welcome!

Quote from: DuVeL;434640Hi there and welcome! Where does your name come from? You know you have a character in Warframe?

Yeah that was an unfortunate accident. I was previously known under various names, but went through, let's say, a refresh recently. Wanted to shed the history of my previous 'alias', Revenant was just a name that I liked the sound of that was distinctly different enough. I originally went with 'Redacted' but then landed on 'Revenant' as an alternative.

Turned out, as I was informed by someone who knew me before and after, it's also French for 'the returned' which I didn't know at the time I picked it, but is entirely apt for it heh.

PSA: For anyone who hasn't picked it up yet it's currently on sale over at Humble Bundle for £15.99 (It's historic low that I've seen, previous sale on Steam had it at £20.99 I think, post the latest update).

Battlefield V / Battlefield V POLL : To buy or not to buy?
September 23, 2018, 06:29:49 PM
It's a maybe for me. The beauty of the EA Origin Access thing is you can drop a month on that, play it for a month. Once the hype dies down, let the subscription lapse. No need to fully commit to spending the whole £60+ for the full game. I'll probably do the same for Anthem.

Thanks all, I've had an incredibly warm welcome both here and on discord! I should probably also post what I'm looking forward too as well! Currently on the hopeful list (off the top of my head) are:
Fallout76
Anthem
Pokemon Lets Go (Yes, Yes, I have a switch, great piece of kit thats saved my sanity through many a shift lol)
World War 3
*Maybe* the new COD and Battlefield but I'm not massively sold on those yet.

Quote from: RogueTaylor;434606Hi Dave

Thanks ever so much for the intro even if it does feel like a “gaming anonymous meeting” which it can do at times lo. It’s a pleasure to have you join us. From the game list you provided I am sure you will fit in with a good amount of gamers here.A lot of them are currently being played and if you are around on Thursday we are starting to do a night of customs games in pubg so this would be a great time to make Friends and enemies :p I look forward to meeting you in discord and once again welcome to the community !

That sounds great! I'll be on nightshift this coming Thursday but I've only got two weeks of those left before moving onto a standard 9-5 :)

Hey Everyone,

I hate doing these, I feel very much like I'm walking into a 'Gamers Anonymous' meeting. "Hi, I'm Dave and I'm addicted to Games". So, the basics:

A/S/L :g:
Name: Dave (Male, He/Him)
Age: 31
Location: Yorkshire, England

The games I enjoy playing the most are those I can enjoy with other players which are typically competitive FPS, MOBA, or other such multiplayer games. With the caveat of I am pretty terrible at them. I used to be quite competitive in my younger years, but the older I get the worse I get... as such I need team mates to carry me ;-) My current games list includes such titles as:

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
Rainbow Six Siege
SCUM
Rend
Destiny 2
The Division

However, not being part of a community currently means I'm not playing those games all that much. I'm generally quite 'easy' on what games to play providing I can play them with friends and laugh at how bad I am at them... My best period of gaming has to have been c2004-2010, in which I primarily played Counterstrike 1.6, Counterstrike CZ, World of Warcraft and Eve Online. I've struggled to find a community and/or game since about that period in which to call home.

Outside of gaming I'm a bit of a hermit and social recluse, so you'll probably find me on Discord most days/evenings. I'm also studying to do what I should have done a decade ago, a degree (Computing & Psychology) on top of that I'm also attempting to hold down a job, I start a new role in November and looking forward to it! (No surprises, I work in IT). I'm also a passionate techy/geek so I love discussing tech, also a bit of an AMD fanboi, so, er, be warned...

And, I think that'll do for now, hopefully I get to meet/speak with more of you soon. Looking forward to hopefully finding my online 'home' :)
Cheers,
Dave aka Rev(enant).
