The use of the overlay in game is an issue that gets bandied about a lot - some say it's 'cheating'...This is complete nonsense.
Historically tank crews were taught in training to identify enemy tank weakspots. This was fine duing WW2 where the average tank crew would only expect to come upon two or three main enemy types. During D-Day, for example, the average US Army Sherman crew might expect to come across Pzr IV, Panther and Tiger - the gunner would be completely wise to the weak spots in all three of these types...
In World of Tanks, however, you can expect to come across a total of 116 tanks (not even including SPGs)!!!
Using the overlay is a means of re-ballancing the historical ability of crews to be able to recognize opposing points of weakness...
Of course if you can remember off hand 116 different configerations of tank weak spots - then you are a better man than I Gunga Din!
