Hey folks...

I don't know if you've even noticed my complete absence from the fora and servers for the last three weeks.  But it doesn't really matter if noticed or not because I'm going to tell you about it anyway  

Good: I have an income.

Bad: I have, like, no free time.

Ugly: I can finally afford to upgrade - no, hang upgrades, I can afford to buy a 100% new PC!... but as a result I don't have time for CS.

Sadly (for me) it really doesn't look like I'll be able to play CS for a long time yet.  And because the Internet at work is strictly "business only" I can't keep up with these great forums either.

Anyway, you're a great bunch of people, great fun in CS, and if I have time I might take a few moments to miss the hours/days that I used to have to play PCS here.  And if I get friendlier hours in a few months, then I might start to play again.

Maybe not.  I'm highly, highly tempted to leave my PC as it is and buy a Gibson.

Also has anyone noticed that the sign above the front door of the warehouse on Assualt says "67nd Street"? (or something like that...)

Seriously, I'm genuinely confused... are you ahead of me because you described the bombsites that you meant anyway, or because of the B1 thing (what's the one in aid of?), or ... or ... argh!

Interesting that it was roadhouse.  Every time I've played de_roadhouse here recently, one of the teams has been carrying the game by a large margin - scores like 11 - 2 stick in my mind.  It's not always the same team, but it does seem to happen more on roadhouse.

Or maybe I'm just imagining it.  Whee!  Eet mor chiken!

Incidentally, on de_dust the A bombsite is the one to the left of the "mincer" (or tunnels, or corridors, or whatever you personally refer to them as), and the B site is the one at CT spawn.

I always remember it the other way round - A at spawn, B at mincer - which makes me wonder if it was changed at some point.  But the sign on the A site door definately says "A"

Remembering back to my first few rounds of de_dust in quite a while a few weeks ago when I was yelling, "B is clear!  B is clear!" and wondering why everyone was running off to the wrong site...

And then there was that disasterous "Everybody rush B" incident.  Sigh.

Whatever you're going to do, do it quickly!  If the server's full every night then that's going to put people off, and by the time you've got a really good way of coping with the overflow the overflow will have scarpered...

So, temporary solution rather than no solution methinks.  When the Meat Hook starts getting busy - say, 16+ players, perhaps an admin can take five or six folk over to Baldrick then and there and open it up for further joiners to play.  Then subsequent people to join MH can be diverted off to Baldrick as necessary.

It shouldn't cause too much of a problem with clan matches, because the Baldrickers can just be shooed back onto the dMw-depleted Meat Hook for the duration of the match.  Right?

If more people start turning up at the off-times too then perhaps somebody somewhere will open up a second permanent UK PCS server  Or there's always N42.

There's a thought.  If the latency isn't too bad, we could overflow onto N42.  But AFAIK their map download area is still password protected, and the rules are of course slightly different.

Incidentally, since it was mentioned, I think a range of 8-12 players is probably best for PCS play.  Three servers with 8 players would be preferable to one server with 24.  In an ideal world...

There's something fascinating and beautiful about it all.

Fair enough    Although a lot of people do have astrophysics listed under their "hobbies" column, it just seems a little odd talking about it that way.

No, my interest in the Quadrantids was purely for the "pretty lights".  I wasn't indulging in late-night radio observation or spectrographic analysis or anything, and I rely firmly on the astrophysicists to tell me when and where to look up

(Astrophysics itself does interest me, but not to the point that I want to study it myself.  Yet, at least.)

By the way, if you venture outside before sunrise this morning (like, now), take a look at the sky just below the plough and you may see the tail end of the Quadrantid meteor shower.  Pretty lights!

Neat-O  That's the busiest I've ever heard of.  But the weirdest I've ever seen has just happened: 14 guys on de_dust at two in the morning . . . or three, if you're Swedish
