One crazy down-side of the new 1.03 is apparent to anyone who has ventured - as I did last night - onto the ranked servers.

The new points system for ranking has hugely adjusted EVRYONES rank status - instantly promoting the majority.

I myself rose two ranks instantly and am now a Gunnery Sgt. (UK = RSM). And now only have two more weapons to unlock.

Lovely - you might say, until that is you enter a game and you find the server awash wit various types of sargeant ranks!

There are now hardly ANY NCO bellow sgt. and, worse, I didn't see one PFC!

This is just crazy...The fact is, one of the few complaints I DIDN'T have about BF2 as it was was the slow progress up the ranks. It actually felt like a good challenge and gave you a real sense of achievement once you did get to the next rank!

It seem EA/DICE has totally caved in to the spotty youth element who want everything 'NOW'!

What does this teach anyone about dedication and hard work?

(OK - my age is showing there! But you get my meaning!)

;)

I found myself in a 12 man team who's LOWEST rank was a vanilla sarge!

It makes you wonder what is going to happen when 'SPecial Forces' comes out - are they then going to add NEW ranks to teh game system?

They probably can't...

But it's silly, for two reasons...

1) People are now going to reach the rank ceiling soon (then what)...

2) OR EA/DICE are going to have to do a big remake for the next patch to increase the rankings through office class (which is still daft as it means at the new accelerated points rate that within a few months we are all gonna end up as Generals! LOL).

The basic fact is that now I have only two guns to unlock - and only (I think) one more rank to climb up, what is the point of the rankings aside from a kill talley???

:(

What a cock up.

So no more ranked servers for me.

if it helps I think I still classify as a "Private" though the line looks pretty close to an upgrade.

imho the ranking system is pain in the behind. It causes point farming (and there are many things you can/need to do to rank up and get medals and badges etc that don't help your team) but what really irks me is the fact that I have to spend hundreds of hours playing on designated servers in order to fully appreciate the game! I'd like to use the unlocked weapons but I really really cba to spend that much time on ranked servers. If I was able to play the full game with all the weapons then the ranking system wouldn't bother me as I wouldn't be missing out on part of a game I paid for.

IMHO, although having everyone running around as various flavours of Sergeant is annoying, I think it has helped to effectively combat the point farmers.

Bear with me on this.  You can now unlock all your weapons at 50000 points.  It's still a lot of hours, but now within the grasp of people with a life.  Most players only concentrate on playing two or three classes at most, so will be happy with the unlocks for their favourites when they reach Sergeant at 2500.

The only other benefit to rank then is Commander-seat priority.  Given that most players on ranked publics won't bother commanding then there's now no point at all in purely trying to get as many points as you can.

There will probably still be the odd farmer or two about.  I expect they'll be able to get to Master Gunny / Sergeant Major pretty quick, but where do they go from there?  Boredom and Quake IV I expect - leaving those of us who want to concentrate on teamplay to our own devices.

I have yet to venture on to a ranked server.  Even though I have not been the most frequent visitor to the BF2 server I much prefer the tranquility of our dMw mature gaming environment.  I think I'll reminisce on that whilst at the bar for 72 hours at LAN VIII

I have been to a ranked server once.

I go to dMw's BF2 server frequently.

I realize my post is kind of a 'non-issue' to most of us as generally we don't all 'rank'...

But I do like to venture out into 'rank world' every so often and like playing about with badges and unlocked weapons (usually I start off an evenings BF2 by a couple of ranked games to 'warm up', then switch to the dMw server).

SO this thread isn't really so much about whether ranking is 'good' or 'bad' so much as being about IF they are going to have ranked servers at all, at least there should be some sort of logic and common sense employed in organizing it.

But as I said - EA/DICE just seem to have given in to the people who cannot be bothered to work for ugrades and promotions.

...dMw IS the better way to play. But for those who like to flirt with ranking the 1.03 patch has made things ludicrous.

Also, the DMW server doesn't get going until certain times of the day, so its a case of having to. Besides its good to see whats happening in the dark world of ranked servers occaisionally.
