While playing on Dragon Valley last night (and on previous occasions) from the opposite side of the river I spotted a man seated in jeep speeding down the road. Nothing to raise an eyebrow except all I saw was the man seated floating along in mid air. It only ever happens on Dragon Valley has anyone else ever experienced anything similar barring large amounts of alcohol or other stimulants? I must turn AA off to see if it makes a difference. running at 1024x768.

This paranormal anomaly has been reported to me, and I have added it to my substantial file.

Various theories have been forwarded as to the nature of this apparition (aka 'the phantom boatman').

But scientifically this spectre can be explained away by electro-magnetic anomalies that run about Dragon Valley (and the nearby mobile telephone mast).

Also, there is some concern about the purity of the local rice wine and it's effects on the sensory apparatus of players in this location.

But the primary explanation seems to be my latest theory concerning paranormal energy fluctuations that I have termed Lay-line And Geo-electronic anomalies (or LAG for short). Where our world and the virtual flux in some sort of time shift where they intersect...

As to why this happens, nobody knows for sure - but it seems in some way related to the great 'Lost Connection' mystery that befalls us from time to time.

I think it has to do with the view distances. Sometimes one object is considered within range any another isn't. Maybe players show up further off than vehicles, or maybe the players model centre was closer than the jeeps... In dragon valley especially there are quite a few wide open spaces across the water. I often end up shooting at where the tracers are coming from as I cannot see APC's and other vehicles beyond a certain limit...

If you look into "the fog of war" straight on and then gradually rotate your characters view, while yourself watching the same direction in the game you'll find you can see a bit further into the fog. This seems to be a common "glitch" with games that use this method of limiting your view distance.

...or what ranger said while I typed this...

p.s. smoetimes resolution can affect view distance as well. In BF1942 I used to play normally at 800x600, but when using artillery units/tactics I would turn the res up to 1024x768 or 1280 and I could see further. Then when I returned to normal close range combat I'd switch the graphics back down to a res my old card could cope with.
