Controls two pc's with one mouse and k/board

I dont know if such a thing exists, but I'm looking for a device which will enable me to control two machines from one PS2 keyboard and mouse (i.e. server and desktop) and the abilioty to switch between the two. My monitor has dual imput so that bit is sorted.

Anyone know if such a beast is out there?

You can also get ones that work with USB mice/keyboards. I know Belkin make them. I have an old model. New models are listed here.

I've used the Belkin one. It uses Scroll lock twice +arrow key to switch between devices, so you might need to think if you are trying to game and switch.

How are KVMs for gaming? I've heard two complaints levelled at them on general terms: that they make the mouse less responsive and that they make the monitor output (assuming you don't just have dual inputs on the monitor) fuzzy. Has anyone who uses one noticed either of these problems when gaming?

I've only recently started finding ones that do USB. Does anyone know whether or not they tend to be high powered USB?

I have the Belkin omniview USB KVM - it has 2 PS2 ports for keyboard/mouse and 4 usb ports which you can use as a hub which allows you share devices between PCs. As the USB ports are shared you can use USB keyboard/mouse. The KVM itself uses a power supply so I guess the USB ports will have lots of power avail

As to fuzzy yes I did notice the picture quality degraded a bit but it is still capable of 1600x1200 @75Hz (not many KVMs can do that). Didn't notice the mouse response getting any worse but when you have the reactions of a dead sloth on speed it makes no difference

Aye, I have something similar (same function, different product) set up here. Easy as pie to set up and use.

As for making a mouse less responsive, I just have my gaming mouse connected directly to the games computer, and share a cheapie one between the two. Not noticed any monitor fuzziness either.

However, since I can't remember the name of the device, nor be TANGO'd getting on my knees to check, that last comment's not much help...

Not used for gaming, but I never saw any degradation on the monitor.

I have to admit I dont use the switch now and wouldnt really consider it for a games machine. I reckon that the additional length of cabling must have some effect on the signal speed. When you go out and buy high res super fast mice it seems silly to then introduce an extension cable (which in effect it is). Thats just my take.
