Finally...

Last night finally felt my driving was improved enough to venture onto the dMw GTL server - Hurrah unfortunatley I it was empty but least I know where to find it now.

Another reason its taken me so long to venture on there is I don't want to use the car unlocks cheat, as I think the game progressively takes you through more and more powerful cars if you play it, it also makes the game more interesting to pay for me with progressions and deciding which car to buy next.

I stayed for about 5 minutes on the dMw server then went looking for my first online game. Found a mini-fest with about 10 guys playing and hopped on. First game I managed to keep out of trouble and and came mid table. I then played about another 10 games and came mid table. Chatting to another player who was giving me tips and he suggested I take off the steering aids etc... I didn't even know I had them on  

So after a lot of inital crashing! My speed actually improved, the car slides around a lot more now, but I feel I can actually control the car better without all the aids stopping the car turning, etc. My highest position was 4th I think. I like the fact I can earn money too, to go towards my next car.

I purchased my first car last night, as I had to to get onto the dMw server - so I bought the more powerful 3.1RS capri - 410bhp - bloody hell bit of a handful in the first 3 gears and understeers for england at the moment - I didn't have chance to play with setups. Is the Capri any good? Anyone have any settings they'd recommend?

Use the cheat and make another profile. One to torture yourself with and one to have fun on the server with.

Doh! Now why didn't I think of that? Don't answer that!    

Though I kinda like the idea of having to earn my stripes if you know what I mean? This way I have to learn what cars I've got. ie now I've got the capri, I wan't to race that predominantly to learn how it drives - if I got all the cars... I'd be like a kid in a sweetie shop  :blink:

Nothing wrong with being a kid. A kid in a sweetie shop is as good as it gets!
No one I've ever come across has ever completed the challenge/career mode. Besides, we change the car line-up every so often so as not to get stale. Now we don't want 'stale' do we?

It does not matter how good you are when driving at DMR. We drive for the good laughs on TS combined with great dueling with people who don't think of GTL as Destruction Derby. Nothing beats a great duel with f.i. Mini Coopers :dribble:
