Can we please bring back or reiterate the ruling on using Smilies and one word answers (LOL, ROFL, PWN etc)

It is damn annoying to look and see what has been posted to find these type of things.

It is not a competition to see who can get the highest amount of posts either.

If you have something to say say it if not every post does not require you to aknowledge it.

Thank you

Doorman

I was under the impression the one word or smiley answers were greeted with 'Your message is too short' thingy. Unless it got changed in the meantime. I do agree with you in principle but sometimes a pithy one worder says more the a screed. It does get abused though.

Its not? dang i have been missinformed :lmfao:

And as Doorman said, i have gotten one of them, your message is too short comments myselfs. Now trying to always at least make a small line, or post. Even trying not to post as much anymore as duvel sujested.

sheepy

i will very rarely do a short one or two word reply, but with me is doesnt really matter as most of what i say should be ignored:unsure:

Roflmao. Now that was funny

A one or two word reply can still be contributory to a conversation but the ones i have noticed today and in the past few days do not really add anything to a conversation but simply show that that person has read it.

Hippy

I think one word/smilie replies are alright for joke threads or to respond to a witty remark. It's sad to see a joke thread with no replies, it gives the impression that the joke wasn't funny.

Sometimes an emoticon can say it better than words.

"Oh yes, that joke was rather funny, good find"
or
":lmfao: "

I know which one i'll be sticking to.

i was writing the same reply when some one ctrl+alt+del a server when i hit post.

anyway, might as well post it .........

Does this mean we have to stop loling at jokes? Or do i have to write more then 5 words to say i thought it was funny?

Or is this the exception to the rule. If noone lols at a joke thread poster will think its a crap joke and not bother in future.

Am i thinking about this too much... yea i think so.

MAD_ness

I am absolutely positive this has been raised once before ...and the same result was discussed.... you can only post a smiley answer to a joke... to show the postee of the joke that it was indeed appreciated .... all other one word/smiley posts will be considered by the forum admins...

I seriously hope we are not getting far too prejudice about what type of posts are entered ... because recent events are showing that certain types of posts will be removed, altered, censored, whatever ... we live in a free country and are entitled to our own opinions/ answers .... obviously anything blatantly racist/sexist/ or affiliated to certain religious movements will be dealt with accordingly ... but otherwise ... you could be restricting us far too much ..

my 2p worth ....

AND my opinion :taz:
I really was not born to work ALL my life !!!!!

smite

Lets not get into "its a free country and i will say what i want" Territory as that is not what i am saying. The post that everyone seems to be commenting on recently and seeming to have a go at admins for censoring was racist. That as far i can see was the only post but it got blown out of proportion by "OOhh look i can't post anymore" crap which was an overeaction. One post did that no more.

As to this post regarding one word answers i know that the dMw bunch have been through this before but i wanted to mention it again as our community has grown somewhat and we are going over ground that was previously laid and sorted to only come up again. Rather than point names i made it generic.

Now it is plainly obvious when a reply is needed and one isn't. Jokes "Yes" appreciative smilie "good joke mate" said in one symbol. I am on about the "Lets get my post Whorage up coz i want to have a different status next to my name.

I think that a post like this is very good for the comunity once in a while, just to remind ppl to think about what they are posting rather than just post farming

Sometimes, even short replies let the original poster know that he is welcome to post simillar posts (or not).

A very fair and valid point. One that Smite has failed to make in my opinion

DuVeL

I once got asked by one of the forum admins not to reply on every topic so I stopped doing that. Now that's a hint for someone else here :narnar: .

For the rest, good post Smite!
