Hi guys

Im thinking of trying out BF2, just found a copy on the shelf at home, still mint condition

Got it installed. But the question is, anything special I need to know before starting. Any special tag I need to use, servers etc.

Please feel free to spam me with good advice

Hi Sazgul,

At present our own server is offline but should hopefully be back today.

The latest patch for BF2 is 1.3 but version 1.4 should be released "Real soon now"â,,¢ and we'll move to that when it does. Additionally, that will mean we will ressurrect Monday night BF2 nights as there have been many issues with Patch 1.3 and people getting repeatedly kicked off servers so fingers crossed for 1.4 soon and we'll hope to see you on our server then.

We have been playing a modified version of BF2 called AAS (which is a server side mod so you don't need to do anything. However, we will probably move to the PoE mod once patch 1.4 caomes out. You can find out about PoE at the following URL:

Get patch 1.3!

Include the --[dMw]=- tag in the username, do not use the prefix option - that does not allow for all the chars.

Serverwise - start playing and go for servers that are ranked - check the icon to left in the server browser. Ranked allows you to level up so to speak and get weapon unlocks. However, dMw's own server is not a ranked one, so you can't use them there. That is locked at basic weaponry for all. Unlocks are generally considered to be no better, but opens up for different gameplay. For instance the Anti-tank kit has a powerful semi-automatic shotgun as an unlock - it is useless at range, but devastating up close. Click BFHQ in the game for more info on this.

Gamewise - always join a squad. Make sure your mic is set up and use 'b' to talk to your squad. It is not that common on public servers to chat that much, but often people start to talk when you do. People sort of implicitly expect no comms until someone bothers to talk. On dMw we talk a lot, maybe even too much

Use the Q-menu a lot during the game, and spot all you can. For instance spotting armor helps your own choppers and armor to find the enemy, when there is no radar available.

When you make a squad and people join you are a squad leader. You have a comms link to the commander ('v'), that is one player on each side that controls artillery, supply crates, vehicles etc. If you have a good commander, he will dispatch orders down to you, which you then have the option of parsing on to your squad members. He has a good overview of the game and can often predict actions, so listening to him is a good idea if you want your side to win the game :)

As a squad leader you are also a spawn point for your squad members. So when you have a long supply line or has to walk a long way to the enemy flag, the squad leader (if you have a good one) will often lay low, or hide, often playing as support and supplying you with ammo, or being a medic, reviving you, as members of the squad move in. On the opposite side it is always a good idea to hunt down the SL.

Get x-fire up and running and get dMw's on the list - a good way to find a game.

Finally, there are advanced tactics and gameplay available if you qualify for Charlie status (dunno how the SOG clearance entagles with that).
