Screens defenitly look like overheating.

Looks the same when I OC'ed my TNT2 too far:devil:

But it sucks though if it is your gaming rig (or at least non-experimental PC).
You should not fear the dark itself...but what\'s in it!

Gorion

ive got the same screen going black and everything crashing problem.

its HEAT, its either theVGA or the Northbridge.

temporary solution: get a desk fan, open your side window. and put it directly infront of your pc with full power and in 1 position

after 2 months, ime still using the temporary solution....

Yes, it's my gaming rig, my school rig, my work rig... It's pretty much the only computer I have, so it does suck :(

I've now tried to remove both my RAM chips one at a time, but that sadly didn't do much good...
It looks more and more like it's certain to be the gfx card that is bye gone.

I talked with Dell tech support earlier, and they told me to do a full run of some system diagnostic tool that came with the laptop (which is what I'm doing now), and also run Mem86 for some extended memory tests.
The guy is gonna call me back tomorrow, and if we don't manage to find any sollution than (which I tbh doubt), I don't see any other ways than sending it in for service.

If so happens, I'll guess it's gonna take 2-3 weeks. In the meanwhile I think I should be able to borrow a desktop computer from my room mate, and I hope it is powerfull enough to run WoW, but I wouldn't bet money on that I manage to have it ready by the raid tomorrow.

That is exactly the problem that made me disconnect so much at the start of the raid on sunday! :ranting2:
I had just installed my new drive with a clean Winblows and all, installed WoW clean and fresh. But for some reason I couldn't get the blizz downloader to work. So I downloaded the patch from filefront and patched. Then I just got the error message you get every 5 minutes. I'm not sure why, but I can tell you how I fixed it! Bad news however, you aren't gonna like my solution. I unplugged brand new raptor drive, put back my old sucky one which I luckily hadn't formated due to not having enough S-ATA cables to have all drives in at once. :blush2:
When I booted my old drive, WoW worked perfectly again

Conclution; Let me know how you fixed it

Bob put a fan on your GFX. That is your problem. Im 100% sure of it. Same thing happend to me som i orderd some kick ass fans and boom it worked again. So if u have a casing fan, put it next to your GFX and u will be fine.

Not shure if that's gonna do it for me

But I've moved the topic out into another thread, with a bit more details and stuff: [post=153793]check it outhere[/post]

I kind of doubt that it has anything to do with overheating.  Firstly it happens also when I boot the laptop when it's all cold.  Secondly, this is a laptop, which makes it a bit hard for me to do any "case modding" to get extra cooling - not that it should be neccessary, cause it's a gaming laptop, it is meant and built for great heat.
I have also had it running for hours and hours and hours (playing WoW or other stuff that's hard on the gfx card), it gets pretty darn hot, but it hasn't been a problem since I got this laptop over a year ago.

And as I also said: topic moved to [post=153793]this thread[/post], so you could take a look here for what I've tried and other stuff.

Thanks for the input though :)

Just bringing you the latest news in this case:

I've been in contact with both Dell (who gave me a crappy "offer" to fix my commputer) and my boss.
My boss is taking care of the repair costs, meaning Dell will come pick up my computer (hopefully RealSoonNow), fix it and bring it back to me.  I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I would guss it could take somewhere around (but hopefully less than) two weeks.
My boss also said he was gonna get a new extended maintenance varranty, meaning the next time something like this should happen, Dell will have to come at my door the next work day and fix the bloody thing on site.

That desktop computer I got to borrow from my flatmate sadly didn't run WoW (gfx card didn't support dual-TMU (or whatever it was)), so it hurts me to say that I won't be able to play anything before I get back my own

Untill than, hope you manage fine in AQ and you kick those twin's asses real hard

Bob out - for now

I solved the problem on my other drive. I got a hold of a new Winblows XP cd and installed that fresh. Seems to work fine now, but I suspect the problem to have been related to the NVIDIA drivers I was using the first time around. Still have my old drive at hand in case the problem comes back though.

You were getting problems outside winblows as well?

Yes.
If you scroll up a couple of posts, you'll see a link to another thread where you'll find a more detailed description and some  screenshots  of the problems I had.
