as you all dont know both my gfx cards are complete and utter CRAP!! when they shouldnt be i have an nvidia geforce 6500 and an ati radeon x1300.

i am trying to use the radeon because its supposed to be better but i get about 20 choke all the time on source and it crashes my computer every 5 seconds. my nvidia card also started doing this after i put my radeon in first then changed it back.

anyone have any idea how to stop this ridiculous choke problem without me buying a new gfx card/smashing my pc to teeny tiny bits?

Stop blaming ur gfx card for a start, choke is when you cant maintain the data rate between you and the server, nothing todo with fps afaik

I don't know enought about rates to help you much further, i suggest googling

my networks fine it only happns when i change my gfx card so ner :sad:

EDIT: if i change back to my nvidia ill get crashing stuff cos that card is stuffed but my choke will always be 0 and cz is fine and so are all non-decent gfx games

what is the rest of your pc like. I find CSS to be pretty intensive on the old system...

There's possibly a small chance that your system is so stressed that it cannot communicate fast enough with the server and is getting choke, but I too think choke is a network problem rather than a gpu prblem as the others said.

Is the crashing down to a driver problem perhaps? Is your system otherwise capable of playing games and running apps without crashing?

btw (IMO) neither of those cards are particularly great for intensive 3D fps

It may be that what ever is cuasing the crashing is affecting the CPU etc and having an affect on the CPU handling the packets.

Do you have a usb based modem?

wah and no i dont think so its a phone line one?

EDIT: can you guys help me find a not too expensive decent gf card i can use cos i really wanna gaaaaaame

EDIT:EDIT: tried the 'create new game without any bots and there was little or no choke :S but i did have a ping so i was online and also if i use source-ish skins in cz it starts choking

are you on 56k or adsl (broadband)?

both of them go through the phone line. What do you connect to the phone line with?

Are you sure its choke? can you get us some screen shots of the fps thingy displayed?

im sure its choke because i have net graph up ^^ i use broadband and its a phone line
