I recently had a problem with some programs in the startup folder causign my system to auto-shut down after a few minutes.  IT might be worth gradually stopping all the programs in the startup menu to see if stopping any one of them running made any difference.  For me ended up being my first ever Folding@Home related error. When I let F@H run at startup the system auto down shut after a few minutes.  When I disabled F@H the system ran fine.  Throughout this the temperatures running ont he system were well within tolerance, so I reckon some other piece of hardware is being stressed by F@H on my ageing system (hence it is being replaced).

I would also follow the above comments about unplugging the bits if peripherals that are not needed right now.  This will help rule in or out anything causing a power-related problem.

Finally the general issue does sound like something graphics related.  If yo have an older card you could swap in it is worth trying to see if the same thing happens.  Otherwise take the side off the case and blow a big fan at the gfx card, then see fi the problem is the same.  Check the fan on the gfx card is actually spinning - a remarkable number do not!

well, i dont have anything in my startup folder
fan on the vga works (the heatsinks also get quite hot, so i rekon theyre attached correctly)

ive been using an older gfx card for months now, and the problem only occured once (but i had a very dodgy psu that day)

the wierdest thingy about it, its intermittent...

so far ive spent like 3 days playing nvn2 with it and it only happened around 2-3 times, while in wow it only lasts untill a few min after logon, and sometimes it works for a whole day perfectly..

also formatted and re installed wow, same prob remained, it also happened whilst i was playing diablo2

If you still got the X800AIW in there, what drivers are you using.? I had some occasional vaguely similar issues with Catalysts (6.7/8)before I updated to 6.11. Things have been OK since.

I'm running a Type-R (blue:rolleyes:) with an X850 XT Pro, running as an 850 PE. So not hugely different from yourself. I also make use of ATITrayTools, very handy for making sure things are OK. http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Hmm my motherboard has a nice lil thing that tells you what is happening to the PC status (4 LEDs that can be Green or Red and the combination and meaning of thoes LEDs are written in the MoBo manual). Some time ago I had the same problem for a few times in a row and it ended up to be a RAM failure (Love LEDs :D) maybe it can be that also in your case?

Well.. i dont think you are having a GFX overheating issue as ATI cards tend to give a nice pop up telling it reset your graphics accelerator when it gets to hot...

But not sure they dropped that on X800 and onwards tho?

Give ATI Tray tools a spin from my earlier post. Has good temp stuff and includes a stress test. I also use to to overclock my card and alter my AA/AF depending on what game I'm playing on the fly.

Ye try the ATI TRAY TOOLS and see hows it works..
Or try and get ATITOOLS and run the artifact scanner, best Artifact scanner  ive found so far..
(ATItool works with nVIDIA cards too, awsome for overclocking)
