official ranked servers cost a small fortune to rent (you cannot set up your own), and unranked servers just dont draw a big croud, since you dont get to play w/ your unlocked goodys.

Not alot people in this community play BF2142.
There's also not alot of people on BF2-Vanilla (I'm an exception).
For the rest, setting up a server for BF2 or BF2142 cost quit a bit.
I suggest you check the [RIP] clan out for their BF2142 server: http://www.rustyinplaces.co.uk/
