I really like the comedy Green Wing. I am looking to buy the DVD's when I realised that using some 4oD (Channel 4 on demand - http://www.channel4.com/watch_online/index.html?hpos=Watch-Online) software on channel4.com you can stream the show for £0.99 pr. episode which is way cheaper than buying the DVDs. However, I don't live in the UK so I can't. I think they check pr. IP.

I've also been looking to how to software works and it seems that it downloads and stores locally. So my hope was that the work IP (which for some reason is ok in the installation of the software for buying and playing shows, but fails when trying to buy the shows - "you are not in the UK etc.") would be good enough and then install on my laptop and bring home and playback the episodes.

On this preliminary check I pass all the checks

But after installing it says "until you get ashore blah blah"...
However, I can't do that. Any ideas how to circumvent this?

innit?

Thanks :) Never thought of that. Is it safe, meaning that I will give out some credit card info which will pass through?

If its encrypted when it leaves your browser it can only be decrypted by the receiving website, the proxy just ferries it along.

The channel 4 on demand application, which is mandatory for watching the movies, does not work with a proxy. That is, at least unless I modify some underlying settings on the PC, so when the app fires up the browser I already redirect through the proxy. So far I dont know how to do that.

Any ideas how to circumvent this restriction? It is not like a want to see free TV, I will pay for it :o) Some kind of IP spoofing. For all I know the app could be looking up my IP locally and thus making the proxy idea pointless...

Anonymous proxy?  It worked for me when ABC we're showing episodes of Lost on their website in america.

Problem seems to be that the 4oD application I have installed here locally, in order to see the content, somehow checks locally. I.e. probably looks up my WAN IP and not some proxy. So I need to spoof my given IP somehow. Can that be done?

Edit: seems so, for that that care - http://www.boingboing.net/2006/02/25/howto_stream_the_it_.html

And this is prolly what you meant JB
