hi guys
sometimes when i play css, i have some lags. i hardly ever notice it, but i think for the other players its pretty annoying. well, my ping is ok, its about 60 for example.
very often someone tells me to change my rates. well, my knowledge about computers is very very very small :) (i dont even know what "rates" are), so i have absolutely no idea what i can do.
if you have a bit time, please explain me how i can solve the problem. it would be great when someone can explain how to "change rates" in a way that a rookie can comprehend.

Lee did a good post with reference to a guide. Dependin gon your technical level it might still be a bit techy, but ask away.

What kind of internetconnection do you have and such are important. It has to do with your up and download to the server.
I commented you yesterday as you once held up 3 of us and suddenly were across the map leaving us behind (nice speedhax :flirty: ).

hi
i live in germany. maybe the connection is not so good because im a few kilometers away from england.
but i think the problem is that i divide the internet connection with 2 other people. because only sometimes i have lags.
i think when someone, or both of them use the internet, downloading something for example, then thhe connection becomes slow for me.
anyway, thank you for the link i will check it out.

PS: i dont use speedhax. (the aimbot is sufficient for me) :byebye:

Yes, the more people on the connection and the more they download makes it worse. Nonetheless checking your rates is always a good idea. Do you have netgraph enabled in CS? If so, check if you have any choke.

Whitey

Your rates the other night were 3500, 101, 100

The 3500 is causing your issues as it is too low.  If you have a broadband connection then you should be able to set it to 20000 in the console (just open the console and type "rate 20000").  Your cmdrate and updrate (101 and 100) are fine.  Use this as a starting point and if you still have issues you could drop the rates as low as 15000,50,50  (ED recommended minimum on Source).

But I thought we all had choke anyway due to the long standing network issues?!

Lee

Unfortunately Whitey is right yet i agree with Delan too, excess choke and loss is pointless really, there's no point sending extra information to the server which can't be processed and vice-versa. The choke will usually jump to 50 when the bomb explodes then goes back down to about 5-10. If you get about 50 all the time (for either loss or choke) i'd definitely change your rates for now, as it's fast to do anyway, then if the choke is absurd again, rechange them.

Hektor, your ping does always seem to be over the 100s from what i remember, but that could be a country thing, even then you do seem to jump way too much just for that ping. In an ideal world, no-one else on your computer network would use the internet for downloading/uploading but it's not the case and this is what does generally cause slowdown. But as Whitey said, your rate is FAR too low, so just increasing that to a normal amount will help greatly.

I have updated my rates calculation spreadsheet to take into account new info from links provided by Whitey. You can get it at:

http://www.sutherlandweb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dmw/rates2.xls

You will need Excel to open it; Excel 97 or newer.

The yellow boxes are for you to enter your details. The red boxes are what the spreadsheet reckons you should set.

NB that Max RATE value is now 30000 not 25000 and that there is no limit on cl_updaterate (it used to be 100)

I can't get the hang of that.  A couple of evenings we all had choke, badly. Lately there has been a severe case of server lag. We had ppl leaving because of it. But at that time choke was ok (1-5 for me except for beginning and bomb ofc)

Hektor

thanks for the help
