Hi Guys,

Some of you may know me from playing CSS on your server.
I stumbled upon this racing section and I am interested so please could you tell me alittle bit about what goes on here and how I can take part.

Many thanks

In short, the main dMr/w game is Live for Speed, of which there is a free demo available for download. More sim than game, it's heavily setup dependent and takes a while to get used to. It's best with a wheel too.

Take a gander at http://www.lfs.net/ and watch the answers stack up here too.

As fattycat says, download the demo and give it a try. Using the mouse is ok for a while until you go multiplayer and get hooked, then you will feel the need to buy a wheel.

The moronic demo server racers do not represent the standard that you get when you buy the game and get into the proper servers, so don't let that put you off.

Hi

You can download the demo from the above link. It is almost fully working except you get only 3 cars and 1 track area (=2 tracks, which can be driven both ways). When you have tested the demo and notice you like it you can buy the full S2 version which gives 19 cars and 7 track areas (with 25 tracks) (iirc). You can buy S2 which is mostly the extra cars and tracks, while the program itself stays the same. But you also get the nice LFSWorld system which logs your online races, personal bests etc etc. Not to mention the nice online community which is ready to help you in any problems.

Two things make it different from many other racing games: It is very much a simulator, which means it is little harder to control cars than some arcade games. Secondly it is 90% online racing game, so most of the fun and action is online.

If you feel the game bit difficult, don't let it depress you. The learning curve might bit longer but most cars can be handled quite well even with mouse (yes, I use mouse).

Also, if you play the demo online you might find that some people behave like idiots. This is because in demo everybody is very much incognito and they can behave badly without fear of beeing complete banned online. In S2 everybody has a personal account and if you cannot follow the rules, you get a bad reputation, can be banned for few weeks or even completely from online races. So in S2 bad behaviour is quite rare.
